Red Beach is where I first fell in love with body surfing. We had such a great time that we ended up buying boards the very next day.

Red Beach feels like a real coastal reset. The sand runs long and soft, with room to spread out even when the town feels busy. The water stays calm on many days, so you get an easy swim without fighting heavy surf. Locals walk dogs at sunrise, families set up shade tents by late morning, and paddleboarders glide close to shore. I liked the simple layout. You park nearby, step onto the reserve, and you are on the sand in minutes. The grassy strip behind the beach works great for a picnic. Clean toilets and outdoor showers make the day simple. I also appreciated the gentle slope into the water. Kids splash near the edge while adults float farther out. At low tide, the shoreline opens up for an easy wander, with tide pools and small shells for kids to inspect. The surrounding neighborhood stays quiet and tidy. If you want more action, Orewaβs shops and cafΓ©s sit a short drive away, then you return to calm afterward. Stay for the light. Late afternoon turns the whole bay gold, and Rangitoto sits on the horizon like a quiet landmark. Bring a coffee from Orewa on the way in and take a slow walk to the rocks at the southern end for photos. Red Beach delivers an easy, relaxed North Island beach day.

Big wind, quite big waves. Not too crowded on weekdays afternoon.

Love this beach! It offers a nice beach, for walking, swimming, etc, on one side, the opposite side is more rocky, rock pools with many different sea creatures living in them, and a couple of caves! Lots of fun to explore with the kids!

The best beach on Whangaparaoa Peninsula. Perfect for swimming, kayaking and kite fishing in an offshore breeze and a surfers paradise when it's onshore. The surf lifesaving club provides an excellent safety watch. Parking adjacent to the beach is pretty good. Uncontrolled dogs can be a nuisance.

I always loved Red Beach when the weather is favourable. There is lot of walks about Red Beach and the sand is just as good as the pavement. Dogs of a leash is welcome. We also went further north for some beach walking ... Always a delightful pace to be
