One of the largest universities of New Zealand.

AUT certainly has an impressive city campus with a latest addition of robots to educate and research with. Very impressed by the students. Light flood huge atrium connecting buildings and area to have lunch with microwaves, sink and seating. Plus cafe that has salads and hot food as well as sandwiches, as in town there’s no supermarket to dash to between lectures. Went for an invent and that was extremely well organised in a very good large lecture room with excellent acoustic.

Any practical skills they claimed to teach us barely scratched the surface. I did a design degree, thinking I would equip myself with all the tools necessary for the job. But they chose to focus heavily on the abstract side, which I understand to some extent, as creativity is crucial for being a designer. However, sometimes being creative can be as simple as making something look nice and pretty for the sake of it. They wouldn’t accept that though. They wanted a deep story behind everything, which often requires you to lie. For example, I can't choose the color red simply because I think it looks good in my design. Instead, I have to come up with some elaborate reason, and those who lie the best tend to get the best grades. Why focus on abstract ideas that are so high in the sky, when the most basic tools and knowledge required to bring those abstract ideas to life aren’t taught properly? Don’t waste thousands of dollars to go to this university just to listen to them preach all this impractical nonsense, only to end up having to learn the tools yourself. No wonder their ranking dropped from the top 2 in New Zealand to the bottom. They deserve it.

Good place to study for Health Sciences, city campus is awesome. North Campus has great nature mood boosters - trees but their IT team need to improve at North especially. Significant areas of improvement: The ICT support staff need to be a bit more understanding towards students at the North Campus and assist with our technical queries. The central library needs to be more diligent and strict in enforcing quietness for those of us trying to study and get our assignments done. Can be overly disruptive.

I go to university here and i love it, amazing environment and friendly people. The library is so nice and full of many impotent books. People are free to explore themselves here.

Amazing support systems in place, especially for Māori and Pacific students. StudentHub staff are very helpful.

Great studying environment and the atmosphere on orientation day was awesome. A warm welcome back to formal study for me after an absence of 30 years.
