The security guard should be fired. He asked us for our id’s then immediately did a 360 and got totally aggressive. We were being completely reasonable and respectful. As we were walking away from him he punched the door. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t sober. This is disgraceful behaviour.
Music is alright, the real problem is the team of bouncers. Most of the times I've gone I've had issues with the bouncers. I'm not sure if it's a power trip or what, but they always seem to just enjoy causing issues for everyone. Most petty reason that I had to leave is because my fiancé was 'sleeping' according to some idiot, we were having a seat after dancing for 3+ hours. Eyes were open and we were talking by typing to each other, definitely obvious she was awake. Can definitely see why AV has less than 3 stars, avoid like the plague or risk getting kicked out for BS.
I have been to AV Club times without any issue at all...but recently, I rolled up with my girlfriend and joined a group of people at the front entrance to get in. It was a slow night, everyone was getting stamped and when it came to me, some bouncer suddenly just blocked me, singled me out and told me that I had to go wait in the queue line area, which was completely empty. No one one was lining up, it wasn't crowded, I was dressed fine....so it just seemed like a completely unnecessary, arbitrarily power flex. My girlfriend correctly assessed the situation as rude and not worth the wait so we decided to move on. I regularly spend money at venues where I feel welcome but in this case, i was quite happy to take my money elsewhere.

My favourite club in town but for a while now I go in and there's almost no one there while Saturdays is packed. Hope the business picks up again and gets back to how it was.
My favourite club in New Zealand, love that you can float between AV & Saturdays, the Dj's are always good, especially love Wednesday Nights as the drinks are cheap and the dnb goes off.
Purely reviewing from the 5pm Happy Hour standpoint that AV is running whilst what was formerly known as Orleans is being rebranded and remodeled across the aisle. For this, they've got a little $5 Asahi tap cart outside with plenty of covered outdoor tables, space heaters, and even a moderately mellow DJ vibe going.
Ahhhh the music is great! Never had issues with the bouncers. All the staff from from the cashier to the bartenders are genuinely friendly. Toilets are “tidy” enough for unisex toilets but pretty tight.
