   I was in Wellington from the US & found Marouska on instagram looking for a stylist who had experience cutting wavy hair and updating my grown out shag/wolf-cut. Marouska was kind, welcoming & communicative and she generously listened to what I wanted and offered a plan. The cut was exactly what I was hoping for and better. She checked in about how I wanted to style it and sent me out feeling refreshed and happy. My hair looks exactly how I was hoping and I highly recommend her!

   It was my second time doing my hair at this salon — and definitely my last. I had booked a keratin treatment, but the hairdresser insisted on doing the color on the same day, saying other clients do both with no problem. Anyone who’s had keratin before knows that’s not how it works. The treatment should leave your hair instantly smooth, shiny, and silky — and last at least a couple of months before new curls start showing. Instead, she spent hours chatting (non-stop for seven hours!) and after all that, she washed the keratin out after only about 40 minutes and went straight into coloring. I was honestly shocked. By the end, my hair just looked like it had been blow-dried — not treated with keratin at all. I left the salon exhausted, frustrated, and so disappointed. I spent $780, didn’t even get a proper thank you when I left, and a few weeks later they emailed me about a “deal” with their salon assistant — which was almost insulting after such a poor experience. To make matters worse, after just two washes, the color turned into shades of red, which I had specifically asked to avoid. I was furious and deeply disappointed. and the frizziness returned — completely defeating the purpose of the keratin treatment. Please, to the owner — don’t leave a copy-paste apology or try to justify what happened. I’ve been polite enough here. If that’s the case, I’ll come in personally and provide this feedback face-to-face. I wouldn’t recommend this salon to anyone who values their time, money, or hair.

   Great cut & highlights by Eugenie. Friendly service, nice coffee and very happy with my result. Bear in mind that there’s an add on for drying & styling your hair afterwards that they advise you about before they go ahead. The cut & blow dry it says on the website is just a quick blow dry without brush or styling. That was a bit surprising to me as with other hairdressers before this was part of the treatment and price. I’m going to send my partner over there now for his cut. 3rd salon I tried in Wellington and would highly recommend! Thanks Eugenie!

   Went for a hair cut with Juanita for the first time. I had seen glowing reviews about her skill with cutting thick hair like mine, so I had to make an appointment right away! From the moment I arrived at Black Pearl & Co, she was so lovely. She took care to listen to what I wanted, and gave me so much great advice. It was clear to me how much she cares about her clients and her work. All in all, such a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to go back for my next appointment with her!

   Juanita is my new hair stylist and I can't recommend her enough! I discovered her just before Christmas and have followed her to Black Pearl. Right from the start I felt really comfortable with her. She's very capable and professional, listens to what you want, can quickly see what suits your hair (and facial type), and cuts hair beautifully. She also has a lovely manner, calm and assured, and I always leave the salon feeling I've had a really enjoyable experience as well as a great haircut! Juanita is a treasure!
