   Fine as a pub, good range of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages but food is average, but being a pub it's just for alcohol license compliance I guess. Had one of the worst pizzas here, a $7 dominos pizza is better than the $20 frozen pizza chucked in the Merrychef and a rock hard crust.

   An egalitarian bar run by an authentic Kiwi character. As a matter of fact, John is there to enliven and entertain, and will beat himself up if he feels he’s flubbed an order. The astonishing fact is he never does. A juggler of communications, financial cartwheels, drinks, security and warmth; if you ever think The Shore lacks a space for bush people and fish heads alike, Takapuna Bar is your only man. Jemmo

   Best bar in takapuna by a really long shot , I wouldn’t go anywhere else it is takapunas saviour for nightlife. Good manager good staff really affordable as well highly recommend!

   What a JOKE! Charging a sober driving, pregnant woman $4 per carbonated water from the tap. DISGUSTING hospitality practices. Shame on the manager and servers. Sober drivers should never be charged to drink water when their responsibility is to keep their peers safe on the drive home.

   One star — and that’s generous. I’ve lived in Auckland for over 25 years. I’ve been to the Takapuna Bar occasionally over the years — not a regular, but certainly familiar enough with the place. Today, I walked in for what I expected would be a casual pint and left having experienced some of the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered in this city. After ordering a Summit low-carb beer, I politely asked if I could swap it for something else, saying I found it a bit average. The duty manager flatly refused, which is fine — it had been poured, I get that. But what followed was astonishing. His response was cold, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. When I calmly pointed out that his tone and approach were off, he doubled down — in front of other customers — and said I wasn’t a “real regular” like some others, so essentially I didn’t warrant better service. That’s not just unprofessional — that’s biased and exclusionary. When I challenged him (again, politely) on how he was handling the situation, he offered no apology. Instead, he said he only made the “not a regular” comment because I’d questioned his attitude. As if that justifies anything. To the owner, Alistair Davidson: If your goal is to just keep the lights on, do nothing. But if you actually want this place to thrive, start with your people. Train them better. Hire people with EQ. Your front-of-house sets the tone, and today, it was a tone of arrogance, not hospitality. I won’t be coming back. And if you enjoy average beer, poor lighting, TAB screens, and being treated like an inconvenience, this might be the place for you.

   Fairly basic but to be expected as it really is just a public bar. For what is offered it is a tiny bit on the high side when it comes to pricing but overall the atmosphere kind'a makes up for that. Huge outdoor area which is well patronized especially Thursday to Sunday.

   They were training new staff. A friend and I were drinking Guinness and Pale Ale. Thinking that ours was a good order for the new guys to learn to pull, we sat there and drank a while lot more than we paid for! And the barman replaced a beer he heard me spill. Can't think of any better reasons to leave a 5 star review! Great place!
