The first time I tried Masu was almost ten years ago, and surprisingly, their food is still just as good as I remember โ€” which is impressive, considering how many restaurants tend to decline over time. I went for their Shomi set menu, and it turned out even better than expected. Great value for money with a generous amount of food and consistently high quality. The standouts were the tempura and the salmon. The tempura was light, crispy, and not greasy at all, while the salmon was cooked perfectly โ€” crispy skin, tender inside, and paired with a sauce that tied everything together. My only complaint was the pacing; the gaps between courses were a bit long, possibly because the restaurant was so busy. And busy it definitely was. On weekends, Masu is buzzing โ€” lively, energetic, and quite loud. Staff are constantly on the move, but service overall was friendly and attentive. The vibe is casual and welcoming. All in all, a very satisfying experience. Definitely a place Iโ€™d recommend.

We visited for the occasions in Masu. The host is so friendly and kind to welcome us. the restaurant ambiance makes us travel in Japan as there are some cherry blossoms and sake bottles for the decorations, and the staff's uniform is like Japanese's traditional costumes In Masu. We ordered the set menu which has to be ordered by the special conditions via the first table. All the foods is so tasty and delicious. Especially, the teriyaki salmon is cooked perfectly. They also gave us special dessert for the occasion.we are willing to visit Masu again. Thank you so much

โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ Outstanding dining experience at MASU by Nic Watt! My partner and I recently visited MASU and went for the Shomi menu; absolutely spectacular! Every dish was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were perfect, and the timing between courses was just right, allowing us to really enjoy each plate. The atmosphere was lively yet refined, and it was genuinely entertaining to watch the chefs in their element. You can tell they take pride in their craft. A special mention to the chef with the snake tattoo; his positive energy stood out! He was working across multiple sections, clearly putting in the effort, yet still took the time to acknowledge guests with a smile and even explain some of the dishes while working. That kind of passion and professionalism really adds to the dining experience. Service was equally excellent, our waiter was attentive and made sure we were well looked after throughout the night. Overall, MASU delivered on every level: food, atmosphere, and hospitality. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Auckland.

Brought my parents here for their 45th anniversary, was totally worth it. Got to try their Kagoshima A5 wagyu to see if it lived up to the hype. Was amazing. Never tasted beef like that before, melted in my mouth like butter, didn't need any garnish or condiments, just grilled and seared to perfection. The set menu was good too but the Wagyu was definitely the highlight. The different wine pairings worked really well too

Good, not great. Overall it seemed they valued speed over quality of execution. As one other reviewer mentioned, there is a total disregard for knife cuts lol. That said, the ingredients they use are quality. Tips: tell them specifically the timing of how you want every item to come out (I had 5 things delivered all at once); if you order anything soft shell crab, ask for a side of extra yuzu kosho mayo; skip the steak; enjoy the fresh fish!

Went there for diner a while ago and it was the best dining experience I had in Auckland. The sashimi is a 'must try', no matter you chose one type of the fish or chose the 'platter' like us. The thick-cut style makes you can feel the sweet of these seafood. So we ordered another one after we had the first plate. Spring onions in chicken skewers lift the flavor to another level. My partner ordered king crab leg, the only downside for that is the mayo is a bit heavy and override crab. Will 100% come back for another fantastic diner.

I was back for the third time to celebrate my birthday at this wonderful Japanese restaurant. Three of us had the Tokusan tasting menu and every dish was perfection. The standout was the nigiri platter especially the scallop. I was surprised with a special birthday platter at dessert. Service was exceptional especially from the maรฎtre d/mgr who took the time to come over and explain many of the dishes in detail. This was a real treat and we thank him (sorry we didnโ€™t get his name).

We ordered everything separately, my first time trying Wagyu beef and it was amazing. Everything was perfect and amazing, highly recommend Masu, must try at least once in your life. If you like alcohol, Tokyo whiskey is nice too.

A very nice place. We made reservation two weeks before the trip and it is definitely an amazing experience with MASU. The food was fabulous especially the kingfish salad and the dessert. Everything was meet or exceed the expectations. Service was really warm. The manager and waiter were very considerate. Nice experience.

This is by far, one of the best and authentic Japanese restaurants, that I have ever been to. Servings is generous. Everything here was tasty and flavourful. It's one of the places that you just want to keep eating even if you are full. Highly recommended for both quality of the food, ambience and service. Canโ€™t wait to come back again!
