On a tour with the NZ Founders Society, we visited Duart House, built in 1882. What an amazing old house with so much interesting history and a museum of historic artifacts, furniture, paintings, tools, bric-a-brac, etc. Absolutely loved it and so appreciated the presentation by the ladies who are so involved with this precious property. WELL WORTH A VISIT!!

Not another soul in sight so was nice to wander freely. Dont expect totally manicured gardens but they were nice. Unfortunately not being first Sunday in the month the house wasn't open so may be back some other time to visit it.

in Havelock North for three years in the 1990s, I had never come across Duart House. I didn't get to go inside as it's closed most days but it is a rather beautiful 1800s grand house and pleasant Gardens. Worth a little diversion to see an interesting piece of New Zealand history
