I stayed here for about 3 months in a private room, was clean and tidy and plenty of bathrooms and washing facilities. Great kitchen and cooking stations. Right in town so it’s easy to get from A to B. People who run the place are so lovely and nice which makes it a great place to stay. Only problem, there’s a few undesirables that come and go, but you get that everywhere. Very Loud languages and coughing up flem sounds non stop in hallways also drove me a little nuts. Overall it’s a good place to stay if you are looking for accommodation and have a bit of patience.

Please don't stay here The place is dirty, lots of bugs in the room's carpet (looks like it wasn't clean in months) Other guest... ( they have been living here for months (I don't know how can u live like that)) aren't respectful, they come and leave the room slapping the door like nobody was there. Of course they snored all night. The common area is full of flys I mean full. I was never sure who were staff there. The only one I met was Lucy who I saw very few times. This is a house made a "hostel" but it doesn't have a reception so nowhere to go a ask for anything. Staying there I have the feeling that something was wrong, like a very negative energy.... When I ask if I can get some of my money back ( coz I paid for 1 week $150 ) they said it wasn't possible Even nothing happened to me, I don't think is a place for backpackers or any person at all

As soon as I arrived, I felt so welcomed and comfortable. The place is great to stay in for a long period or even for a short stay. The kitchen, the rooms, the bathrooms are very clean and all. And the managers are the best. They are beautiful, helpful and smiley people who give all their intention on what you need. Thanks a lot for everything The Rotten Apple and guys who are reading this comment: join #therottenapplefamily :))

If you are travelling alone or with friends, this is the place to be! Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. There is a common room area with a pool table, big table for dining and a TV. The quiet room has lots of books and is nice to chill out there. In the weekends everyone likes to drink and party to celebrate the weekend! The manager also helps you find work. The bathrooms are clean and tidy and the kitchen gets cleaned every morning and night too! The manager and weekend manager make this place feel like home ❤️

The Rotten Apple might just be the best in the North Island! I've stayed here for 8 months while working and saving money. They have the friendliest staff and they help build a real community with people passing through. The manager, Wilna, made me feel like I was at home and there were always people willing to grab a beer, cook a meal or just chill out with. The owner has taken a lot of care to make sure there are clean bathrooms and good living spaces.I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The Rotten Apple is the place to be in Hastings. Together with the Common Room the best place! Great atmosphere and nice common area. And the best hostel community Ive ever experienced. So many memories and friends I found here. Definitely my best part in New Zealand so far. If you need an awesome place to stay and work and have the best parties on the weekends, go here!!!!
