Great chinese food - did not try the fish and chips. I had the sweet and sour pork + egg fried rice. Very generous size for the price, a single dish is enough for two people. Not a lot of place to dine in so best for takeaway
In 2009, when I first arrived in New Zealand, Chinese food in North Dunedin was hard to find. Mei Wah was the very first Chinese takeaway I ever tried. I'll never forget those hungry lunchtimes when I'd run to their shop to order fried rice, fish and chips, or Beef Tofu on Rice. Their food always fresh, tasty and decent portion. Mei Wah is more than just a shop to me; it's a sweet part of my university memories. Every time I go back to Dunedin to visit friends, I order at least four servings of the Beef Tofu on Rice to take back with me to Christchurch. That dish instantly takes me back to those beautiful university days.
Chips is ok, good texture and crispy. Fish is quite small.
Staff was by far the friendliest I have met. We even had a chat. I enjoyed their food. It was however exactly the same as every other fish and chips place in Christchurch. Unfortunately we have not found one that stands out. They all use the same batter and same fish so it's all the same.
Friendly staff and great fish n chips! We come here regularly and especially like the garlic butter chips. Place is nice and clean.
I walked in as they take pride in their business. Lovely flowers on the table and nice family feel. I have not been able to eat many chips for years as I have a sensitive stomach. First time in years I've had chips and not felt sick. Their fish was real too. When you remove the batter you can see the segments and tasted so fresh! Love the name as googled it. Next time I'm in Dunedin I will be sure to visit! Thank you! ♥️
Weve had fish with half serve chips aand vegetable chow mein. Was very tasty! Very friendly service as well. Good price. Vege chow mein 11$ fish 2.50 chips 2.50 (half serve 1.50). Good amount of fish and not like in many places thicker batter then fish. Crispy chips. Thanks
This is my favorite fish and chips store. Yummy and affordable and just a few walks away from the campus. Highly recommended!
