It wasn’t until he’d made the coffee, just before charging me that he mentioned a surcharge for Matariki. It wasn’t advertised anywhere. I bought another coffee & food later that morning from a different coffee shop & food markets at Riverside markets, no surcharge from them.
I mean, I guess they're trying, but I asked specifically for a light-medium roast acidic coffee for filter. I bought the bean that the guy recommended. It's a medium-dark roast - almost cigarette smoke - bean that seems to be a classic espresso roast. Eithe the guy doesn't know what he's talking about and shouldn't be working at a specialty roaster, or he's duped me. Either way, a pretty disappointing experience, especially as I'd bought the beans to take back home with me to showcase some of NZ's "best" roasters.
Travelled around the whole South island on a vacation and this was the best coffee we had. Had to stop by on the way back out of Christchurch for another round! Whatever you're doing underground, you're doing it right, 5/5! Creamy and delicious!
Great little coffee stall tucked away in riverside! They make nice strong chai lattes. Fast and friendly service always. Our go to whenever we pop in to town.
I think this was the best coffee in NZ.
