On the plate at Red Snapper, the idea is classic fish-and-chips and well executed. Fish is cooked to a clean crunch and chips stay tidy. Value feels fair for the spread. Wait times are contained even when busy. Kūmara fries and sides add a tidy finish.
Up there with the best of them. Gurnard was very good indeed. Chips probably the best I've ever had in New Zealand. Excellent chips which taste like fresh cut real potatoes like chips should taste. Maybe they're not but they are the best I've tasted in years.

Having travelled here from Australia as Ex-pat kiwis, this shop did not disappoint. Great friendly service, fantastic quality fish and chips and affordable generous takeaways. Would highly recommend and come back 10/10
Red Snapper Summer never disappoints—fish is always fresh, batter perfectly crispy, and the chips are spot on. Portions are generous, and the staff are super friendly. One of the best local fish and chips shops around! Love it
Good Fish & Chips, but the size of a scoop of chips is ridiculous
First time in Sumner and tried Red Snapper for quick snack at night. We ordered Oyster (Pacific), Fish bites, and the Burger. We all loved it! We love to try their other menu soon.
This is 100% the better of the two. Ignore the lower score as its wrong. Purchased the same order (f,c,hd,jr) the same evening. Chips crispy vs (literally) floppy, fish twice the thickness and hotdog a bit better tasting although nothing versus a red prebbleton hotdog. The other place definitely has good burgers but I haven't tried ones from here.
Just the best fresh cooked fish and chips in town. Restaurant quality (better than most at half the price) Stopped in for the first Bluff Oysters of 2022. OMG absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Washed down with an ice cold bottle of French Champagne (we just happened to bring). Thank you Adam. As you said "Worth the wait" and met all expectations. Back soon
