The accommodation itself was amazing, beautiful rooms and view. Our experience with the owner did put a damper on the stay. I had contacted previously enquiring about any additional costs for more than 22 guests as we possibly had more guests staying. I did not confirm anything as it turned out we would have 21 people staying. On the day of check in we had people arrive at different times, my dad checked in with the majority of my family however when my friend arrived later she was informed by the owner that she would need to pay an additional $100. My friend called me and I spoke with the owner who told me quite rudely that she had taken a bond from my dad and this would not be paid back β€œif she finds out more than 22 guests are staying” I informed her multiple times that there is less than 22 guests as she would not let this point go and it felt like she did not believe me. She could have approached this differently and clarified with us the number of guests instead of assuming and asking for money from my friend who knew nothing about this. My dad and I went and talked to her as we felt there may be a language barrier. This interaction left me feeling worse as she asked invasive questions about exactly what we were doing as I told her that some more family would be coming the next day but only for photos for my wedding and we would be leaving for the venue afterwards. She asked if we would have food and how no one can walk around with food or have it in the bedrooms. She also said that if anyone has had too much to drink they should throw up in the bathroom and not in the beds and that the bond would not be paid back if there is a mess. She did not say this once but multiple times as if we did not understand what she was saying when we assured her we understood. I felt like she thought we would not be respectful however we had not given any indication to her that we would be anything otherwise as we had just checked in recently. On the morning of checkout there was a contractor washing the windows with a power washer and the owner stood outside the accommodation whilst we were packing up. I felt the contractor could have come after checkout which was 10am as we still were using the accommodation and having water misted over us whilst packing up the cars is not very nice even on a hot day. We were also not able to use a portion of the deck due to heavy water being sprayed there. Having the owner watching us pack up and kind of being in the way was also unnecessary and felt like she was waiting to catch us doing something wrong. We did not break any rules and left the property in good condition. No one left a mess in the bedrooms and I felt like the assumption that we would be disrespectful left a bad taste on what would have been a nice stay at a beautiful accommodation. This whole situation could have been handled in a better way as the owner made us feel at every step as if we were the ones in the wrong.

When I first stumbled upon this villa on Google Maps, it seemed almost too good to be true. There must be a catch! But everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Our Host, Helen is the most thoughtful, gracious host I have ever met! She is super prompt and provided me and my family with all the information we needed and showed us around. The villa is just perfect! It is beautifully decorated and furnished with particular attention to all the details for the best comfort. The attention to detail was incredible! It very much lives up to the photos. The grounds were impeccable and simply beautiful. Location is incredible! Our stay at Lakeview Lodge Karapiro was magical beyond all expectations. If we come back to Karapiro, we would not consider staying anywhere other than here. Absolutely perfect! To Helen, thank you very much for taking care of us and of our needs during our stay!

The accommodation is absolutely outstanding with views to die for unfortunately the staff/owners DO NOT fit this criteria as having poor attitudes and a lack of empathy towards others is very concerning. Unfortunately we had a sick 2 year old upon leaving and cleaned up as much as we could with time restrictions and was accused of being drunk and making quite a mess which is incredibly insulting and not true and was charged an astounding amount. Unfortunately I do not recommend this place as I’m incredibly let down for poor attitude and empathy towards others and the way you assumed it was a drunk person which is absolutely disrespectful

This is a beautiful place. It has a spectacular view and is meticulously maintained. Very comfortable bed, excellently equipped with all we needed. We cooked on the BBQ. So, why not 5 stars? Well a couple of things. We arrived at close to 4 and our room wasn’t ready. Also the grounds man was mowing the lawns with a loud petrol mower for the next 2.5 hours so it was too noisy to relax and read a book outside. it’s also just off the main highway and the road noise is inescapable. It’s 5 am as I write this and the road noise has woken me and it’s all I can hear. To be fair, I’m sensitive to noise, but despite the luxury and the fabulous bed, I just can’t sleep. Trucks roar past at all hours. I can’t blame the hosts for the road noise, just our agent in the UK that booked this for us. If you’re going for a group gathering or a party this is fantastic. If you love peace and quiet I’m afraid you should probably give this a miss.

This is an awesome place to stay. Rooms are a good size. Plenty of room. Can cater for large families. Set in rural surroundings with decks overlooking the sea. Highly recommend. A+++

Fantastic lodge looking right over Lake Karapiro, perfect for family getaways, wedding parties, sporting groups and small corporate groups. The service was outstanding, Jo and Jon are fabulous hosts and the decor within the lodge itself was superb. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to come back!
