   I visited Elephant and Ollie today with my well-behaved 2-year-old, and I was incredibly disappointed by the rude and unwelcoming behavior of the shop assistant. Within moments of entering the store, my son gently touched a sturdy wooden toy near the entrance, which I thought would be perfect to keep him occupied while I looked around. The shop assistant immediately told me to be careful because the tags on the toys "come off easily." These were simple hand-tied labels that could easily be reattached, so I asked if she didn’t want my son to touch the toy at all. Her response was, "preferably not." This is supposed to be a children's store, and the way she treated us made it clear that children (or perhaps certain customers) are not welcome. I couldn’t help but feel that her attitude was condescending and possibly discriminatory, as it seemed she assumed I couldn’t afford the items in the store or judged me based on my appearance. I picked up my son and left the store within two minutes of entering, feeling disrespected and unwelcome. I strongly discourage anyone from shopping here, especially if you're looking for a child-friendly environment or expect basic courtesy.
