   Just finished hiking up the Mount and stopped into Mount Drake Café for breakfast — and wow, what an incredible choice! The portions here are absolutely humongous in the best way possible, and every bite was delicious. We had the prawn omelette and smocked halloumi on toast and it was honestly incredible: beautifully cooked, full of flavour, and so satisfying. I was especially impressed that with the smoked halloumi I not only got a crispy hash brown, but also two generous slices of bread — totally unexpected and such a lovely surprise. Everything tasted fresh, hearty, and comforting, and you can tell a lot of care goes into the food. I left completely full, happy, and already thinking about coming back. If you’ve just done the Mount walk or simply want an amazing breakfast, I can’t recommend Mount Drake Café enough!

   New owner and management, friendly staff, clean place, and really good food. We tried egg benedict and vegan salad. Good portion. Cafe right in front of the beach with beautiful views. Loved it and recommended.

   Such a lovely atmosphere right on the beachfront, with a beautiful view of the ocean. The hosts are incredibly welcoming, and it’s a place you immediately want to come back to. The coffee is absolutely amazing, and the pastries are truly excellent.

   Under new ownership, we thought we'd try it out. We were really impressed, the cooked meals and coffee were so good that we took cabinet food home for our tea as it looked and was amazing as well. The service was very friendly and quick and prices were really good compared to most Mount & Papamoa cafes. Highly recommend

   Very tasty food with great prices. The service is what topped it off for me. When I ordered and the food came out I thought the deal came with bacon but I was wrong, it didn't. Then the guy came back out and said "no worries I will bring you a side of bacon no extra charge" so thoughtful, he went out of his way and the eggs were sooo flavoursome everyone commented. Friendly service, wonderful experience.

   This used to be called Good Burgers. It was very good. Great coffee and great service. Unfortunately this may no longer the case. Ordered 2 drinks and 2 small meals. My drink took 5 mins. Then wife’s meal after a further 5mins. 15 mins later my food appeared. Then, after asking 3 times we got my wife’s tea. From ordering to getting the last item took nearly 40 mins. Hopefully just a one off

   My sister and I went here for breakfast and both sets of poached eggs were hard boiled, the bacon was cold the sausage was uncooked and there “salsa” had cucumber in it. This was extremely underwhelming and disappointing as the view is stunning. Wouldn’t recommend

   Well, well, well. Sometimes serendipity comes to play and new doors open. A hectic sunny Easter Monday saw our go to cafes full. Daily Dose had plenty of tables, all in the sun and not really much of a queue. The menu looked ok. Why not. Trying somewhere new can go one of two ways. Remind you of all the reasons to stick to what you know or be cause to celebrate your spontaneous sense of adventure. The service was friendly and efficient. I appreciate I’m the annoying customer who changes the order to suit me which often results in items missing or forgotten. Not today. The Favourite Husband declared the coffee “a great brew.” He’s a self declared expert on all things coffee. Waffles on about the depth and the colour and the bitterness and all manner of tedium. Anyway. He also had the usual big breakkie. And I had a smidgen of food envy. Heaps of perfect bacon, a beautiful, crispy rosti, creamy mushrooms bursting with flavour and a sausage that was actually made of meat! I had the smashed avo with feta and salsa, 2 poached eggs and I added a side of bacon. The flavour of the avo and the salsa was amazing. And so much avo. Often the avocado is only on the top piece of bread so imagine my delight to discover a whole other layer under the first. This was an outstanding breakfast and could well see the Daily Dose leapfrogging its way to top of our list. If I could I’d give the 6 stars so 5 it’ll have to be.
