Amazing staff who are super friendly with great customer service! It’s a well located cafe with indoor and outdoor options as well as being dog friendly and having the best hot chocolates in town.
We live locally and love coming in to Gillz. I come in regularly for coffee because it is always consistently good. When you go to other cafes, there’s multiple different people who make the coffee and you don’t know how it’s going to taste, but at Gillz they have same few staff who make awesome coffee. We love sitting outside with our dog because it’s always sunny and a nice spot on the main street of Te Awamutu.
So.. For the price of your coffee, we expected better. We ordered a Cappuccino and a latte. They were quite hot, which is ok, but BOTH coffees had an overpowering taste of strong spices. We couldn't be certain of the specific spice, but definitely not the sort of spices that should be used in, or around coffee. It was SO strong and offensive that we couldn't even drink half of each coffee. What are you doing, serving up coffee that is strongly tainted with spices?? It's gross and shows a deeply careless disinterest in your customers enjoyment of your products as well as in the future of your business. We aren't taking the chance of that again, not there, not for those prices. Sort it out or lose out. Up to you.
A delightful cafe with a very good atmosphere. Obviously popular with the locals by the looks of it (I was visiting from Hamilton). The lady behind the counter was very pleasant, and the mushrooms and bacon I had were great. Good coffee also.
Amazing chai latte that barista was amazing! But the girl who made my iced chocolate gave me an iced coffee instead and it made me feel ill. The food was nice but there was sooo much salmon on my toast I only needed 1/4 of it, unless you love salmon I guess! Thankyou to the lady who served me she was awesome. Not impressed with my iced “chocolate”. Very pretty presentation.

This is the third time we've stopped for brunch at Gillz, when heading to Taranaki, and have always found service and food excellent. Normally have the eggs bene, which is beautiful, but they have a large range of great looking food in cabinet. Staff are welcoming & friendly and cafe is clean, bright and sunny. Look forward to seeing you again on our next trip through.
Rude, ignorant woman! I walked in at 1.45 only to be told “we are closing, you can get takeaway” , I queried as the shop actually closed at 2.00. I had coffee and panini and the staff proceeded to clean around me, I left before 2.00 to have the door slammed behind me. No idea of customer service or basic courtesy!
Service is terrible, the lady behind the counter today was arrogant and very rude. the food is out in the open with bugs all over the shop, it is not a clean establishment by any means. I will never be back.
Went for Breakfast. Was very pleased to see lots of choices. I had the kumara rosti with bacon and mushrooms. My husband had the mushrooms on toast. Drinks were good. Place was clean. Hubby would personally prefer fancier bread for his toast. If they wanted any hints I'd change the light shades and add some more plants.great spot and nice service. I'd definitely go back.
