This place was delicious, the food is amazing. Cannot recommend the spiced tea enough. The owners are lovely and we had a fantastic night. We had so many leftovers and they gave us containers to take it home.

The host breathes hospitality. Their warmth embraces you the moment you enter. The drinks are incredible experiences, and the food sings in your mouth. Don't be fooled by it's location or appearance, this is a must try in Christchurch, especially if you love Ethiopean. They cater very well towards plant based, gluten free, and lactose free diets.

Absolutely insane food. Such big portions and a beautiful variety. Great prices. The person who cooks and runs it is absolutely top notch. The tea is incredible. The coffee is incredible. My first experience with food from this part of the world and what a way to be introduced! Go treat yourself. Delicious.

Good food, service, and nice Ethiopian coffee, though the dining environment could be improved given the price. The owner was very accommodating and friendly, which made the experience more enjoyable. We particularly loved the goat and lamb dishes, but found the beef a bit too chewy and with a slightly unusual taste. The lentils were delicious, while some of the other vegetables were just average. The injera was ok surprisingly served cool rather than warm or room temperature, and the other bread was unfortunately far too hard to enjoy though heated.

Ended up visiting Pulse because it was the only late night option for a coffee. Was pleasantly surprised to be told by the owner / operator that he had Ethiopian cuisine. My friend and I both ended up sharing a dish and it was incredible. A totally unexpected experience in a little pocket of a mostly industrial Addington area. The food was spectacular as well as the coffee. Iβll definitely be returning and will recommend my friends to pay them a visit. The owner goes above and beyond the call of duty and it was a pleasure to come here.

Went there on a Saturday evening for the Eritrean food which I really enjoyed! The staff were very friendly and helpful and obviously very passionate about the food. Thank you!

Just stumbled upon this place when we were looking for a cafe that was still open. Honestly, it was a great decision. The people managing the place, Joseph and Salina (refer to attached photos), were awesome! They were very accommodating and provided excellent customer service. Additionally, their food is moreish β they specialise in Eritrean and Ethiopian food so if you want to try East African cuisine or if youβre from either of these countries and simply craving a taste of home, then definitely visit Pulse Cafe. (Note: remember that this is only my personal experience/perspective. Some or other people might say otherwise.)

They do really fresh and delicious Ethiopian food here. I think it might be a weekend thing. The atmosphere is great and the owner and family are very friendly. Gotta go back and try everything from the menu. The Tipsi is very fresh, the Shiro is good too.
