   I would like to express my deep disappointment with the experience I had today at the Hospice Shop next to the Orewa Salt Shop. My 3-year-old son, like any curious child, was exploring some toys in the store, and I noticed a staff member exhibiting incredibly rude and inappropriate behavior towards him. When I noticed him looking at the toys, I immediately asked him to put them back. However, this staff member rudely asked if we were going to purchase the item. I explained that we were considering it but noticed that the toy (a Lego set) had missing pieces. Her attitude grew increasingly unwelcoming, and instead of addressing us kindly, she hovered right beside us, removed the toy, and put it away as though to prevent further “touching.” This experience was humiliating and completely unnecessary, especially in front of other customers. My son is only 3 years old, and his curiosity is natural when it comes to toys. If toys are not to be touched, perhaps consider displaying them out of reach rather than treating paying customers—especially children—with hostility. As frequent customers of the Orewa Salt Shop, where we are always welcomed with warmth and kindness, this behavior was shocking and unacceptable. I sincerely hope this staff member reflects on her actions and makes an effort to treat others, especially young children, with respect in the future. No one deserves to feel belittled or unwelcome, and I won’t be returning until there’s confidence that such behavior is addressed. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

   One of the biggest second-hand stores in Orewa, however is very crowded in the clothing section, making it hard to move around. Don't bother going in when busy, as you won't be able to move. In addition, my grandmother loves crafts and sometimes needs a colour theme. When she asked to buy the jar of blue buttons she was told there was a limit on the amount she could purchase at one time, which seems silly in a charity shop that surely wants to make money for a good cause? Have managed to get some good things from the store though, and the staff are (usually) kind enough.

   It's well set out and really reasonable prices for good quality items. Books are only a couple of dollars. It has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Lots of treasures to be found.

   Fantastic place. Huge range of used clothing, books and magazines, dvdz, furnishings and kitchen gear, crockery and glassware, and electrical goods. Stock constantly changing. Wonderful cheery staff round off a friendly shopping experience. I bought cds (all in good condition), a book and a couple of items from the $1 box. Can't leave this place without spending a dollar or two on something useful.
