    My 3 dogs and I used to be happy at these groomers. I prefer to have my dogs clean around the face as the groom lasts longer. On the last occasion my Bichon had not been cut around her face and so I waited for this to be done. The groom wad a few days before I had major surgery. When I came out of hospital my dog was in such distress that the vet was unable to even clean the wound. The picture below is a week later after the wound could be cleaned. We spent $500 in vet bills. I reached out to the groomer with the picture. I canceled the groom of my other dog in the same message. I did not even receive a message back. I only received an automated message to say that the groom had been canceled. No apology. This is very poor service.

    I took my very old poochon here and after i drooped him off i felt very happy, i explained the issues with Louie being old and dibetic and that he reacted to the loud hairdryer noises, The owner went through the options and siad he would look after Louie and when i picked louire up i was exptremem;y pleased they took extra time to brush out the mats in his wool coat. definately going back. The best groom louie has had in many years

    8 yr old, Border Collie only has hasn’t had too many grooms due to her being quite an anxious dog and not liking to be away from her heading dog sister although it was well over due and what a great job The Dog Groomer done. Spoke to the owners prior about my concerns and they were so reassuring. Mila our Collie looks absolutely beautiful, so soft, smells so lovely and can tell they did such a great job with the groom and clean as she is a very fluffy Border Collie. Great job, very happy with The Dog Groomer & would recommend. 5star!

    ⚠️ WARNING: Grooming Incident at The Dog Groomer – Distressing Experience for My Dog Baxter I brought my long-haired dachshund, Baxter, to The Dog Groomer at 292A Kilmore Street, Christchurch, on July 1, 2025. I booked with JR Alcantara personally, but without my knowledge or consent, my dog was handed to another groomer named Victoria, an inexperienced 8 month old groomer that has no idea what to do by Jr hired her and stands behind her work he said to my husband. I had clearly requested: A wash A gentle undercoat brush-out (no clippers or shaving) Ear cleaning and nail trim Instead, Baxter came home: Shaved in his genital area, including the penis tip (never authorized) Ears trimmed to the skin Fan tail cut in half, destroying his breed-standard look Shaking, distressed, and traumatized, especially when touched near his ears or groin With his nails and ears still untrimmed and dirty Covered in loose fur, despite me paying extra for a deshedding treatment I was charged $126.25—including an extra $30 for a “hand-stripping” that was painful and unnecessary. I later spent 2.5 hours brushing and trying to fix the damage at home. He’s been visibly fearful and in discomfort since. When I arrived at the salon, I heard Baxter crying from inside. No one greeted me for several minutes while he was left locked in a cage, crying out. This was heartbreaking. When I raised concerns, I was told to “show a vet report” if I wanted a refund—something I cannot afford after recent spinal surgery. I feel I was taken advantage of, dismissed, and that Baxter suffered real trauma. Please think twice before bringing your pet here. The lack of consent, the invasive grooming choices, and the emotional toll on my dog are unacceptable.

    We took our pug for a groom and when we got home noticed he was licking his paw and limping funny. Upon closer inspection his nail was cut very short and had some powder put over the nail and blood on it, disappointed that I wasn’t told about this when collecting him. Despite the nail injury, the groomer did a good job of cleaning and deshedding.

    Absolutely appalled at the state of this place, firstly not only does it not have any bedding or carpet for the dogs in “day care” to lay on or toys only children’s play equipment! But secondly the poor dogs are surrounded by their own droppings, they look so miserable I can’t believe they are left like this. Please take your dogs elsewhere this is no way for your dog to spend its day especially at your expenses!!

    I have quite an anxious German shepherd and the staff here are so fantastic not only did the receptionist help me for 15 minutes to get him into the store but the actual groom was possibly the best he’s had yet. He looked stunning and was treated so well during his groom. Highly recommend taking your dog here :)
