Awesome experience! I came in last minute to book a room for the night; Diego and Holly were both extremely helpful and got a room arranged very fast.
I had a concerning experience at Ilam. During a discussion about my contract, a blonde manager acted in an aggressive manner and put her hand in my face even though I remained calm and cordial. She came across as someone who needed to "win" in interactions. It felt like she approached situations as if they were about scoring points rather than finding solutions or common grounds. When I first arrived, she took five weeks to add me to the rental system. I would come to the office for scheduled meetings, and on the day of each meeting she said she was too busy and asked me to reschedule. This happened three times before I was finally added.Instead of hearing both sides fairly, she later gave a different account to another manager which resulted in me being asked to leave. I believe this was discriminatory, especially considering I have heard of cases where intoxicated students physically threatened staff but did not face the same consequences. Concerns about fairness were reinforced when both she and another manager stated that if there was ever an error with rent a student could not receive a refund for that week but would only have the amount rolled over to the next. Even a small overcharge can impact essentials like groceries, and when a university staff member asked the other manager about this policy in a meeting they paused and then backpedaled which seemed less about clarity and more about saving face. I also know of someone whose friend reported this staff to the university a few years prior for similar treatment, and staff outside Ilam apartments who worked with her during meetings have described her as cold. I hope Ilam reviews its approach to student concerns to ensure that disputes are handled with fairness and respect for all students.
Lived here for my first semester in 2025, coming the end now, loved every minute. The staff are so helpful. Great community vibes and really fantastic facilities. Definitely recommend for any international students.
The staff were wonderful and well accomodating, they were great in answering my questions well going around the hall. They seemed genuinely interested in me as a person and are just seem like such lovely people. Iβm definitely looking forward to getting to know them better when I start my first year at uni.
I live here itβs pretty nice. Wish I had an oven.
A no place like home kinda vibe
Extremely NOISY especially on weekends nights. Not recommended for students who need reasonable quiet living space. Because hereβs none.
It's uni accommodation... Don't expect to much
My child had moved to Canterbury University. I liked the room and shared facilities very clean, decent sized room and good security. I feel confident about the safety of my child.
