   I had a terrible experience with Layburn Hodgins Barristers & Solicitors as a beneficiary of my grandfather's estate. Their communication was abysmal—they consistently ignored my emails and refused to answer legitimate questions about the estate's administration. Instead of providing clarity, they left me completely in the dark, showing a total lack of professionalism and transparency. I would not recommend them to anyone!

   Despite me living in Auckland, as our family lawyer I stuck with them when purchasing our first house in Auckland. Their due diligence was top notch, and the whole process was smooth right through til it went unconditional. Even the real estate agent said that this house purchase was the smoothest he has ever been through when we met to get the keys from him. After seeing locals get caught with body corporates and other fees they weren't aware of. These lawyer had it all covered, there was not one missed detail of which I appreciate after hearing horror stories of other locals getting slapped with fees or old bills that weren't paid prior to them having the house unconditional.

   I would like to commend solicitor Emily Dwight on providing a great conveyancing service. I recently purchased my first home and Emily handled everything for me with professionalism and a straightforward approach. Delays due to a Covid lockdown were also handled well and didn't cause any extra stress. I don't believe that Layburn will be the cheapest law firm out there, but they are easy to deal with and quick to respond - worth the extra cost, in my opinion.

   We had a meeting with a lawyer on the 25th November we were told that notes from our meeting would be sent through within 2 working days. As of 12 January still have had no correspondence apart from an invoice from what appears to be an hour meeting (but no one will reply to specify the charges of the invoice so hard to know). During our meeting their workplace had a fire drill - so about 20 minutes of our time in their office were spent evacuating, waiting outside, and then returning to the building. We appear to be charged for this time also. No response from anyone in their offices. We will not be continuing with our relationship with them. Very unprofessional. Do not recommend. Good reviews below seem to mostly refer to Beatrix who no longer works for the firm.
