   This was by far the worst and most unprofessional consumer experience I have ever had in New Zealand. Beijing Tong Ren Tang carries a historic reputation, but this store’s actual operations and service attitude are completely unworthy of the name. First, the pricing was extremely unclear and misleading. There was no explanation of costs before the service, no breakdown during, and the final amount was far higher than expected. When I asked the staff for clarification, they were dismissive, evasive, and cold—showing absolutely no accountability. This behavior is completely inconsistent with New Zealand’s Fair Trading Act, which requires clear, accurate, and transparent pricing. Second, the service itself was chaotic, careless, and unprofessional. There was no process explanation, no guidance, and no effort to ensure I understood what I was paying for. Whenever an issue arose, the staff immediately shifted all responsibility onto the customer instead of acknowledging their own failures. This kind of blame-shifting is unacceptable and clearly violates the Consumer Guarantees Act, which requires services to be provided with reasonable care and skill. The attitude of the staff was shocking: cold, indifferent, and completely lacking basic service awareness. It felt like they were merely going through the motions, not genuinely providing a service. Every aspect of their behavior erodes the brand reputation of Beijing Tong Ren Tang. As a business operating in New Zealand, they are legally required to respect consumer rights, not rely on a famous brand name to excuse poor service. Operating in this opaque, irresponsible, and unprofessional manner damages both customers and the brand. Based on my experience, I strongly warn future customers: Be extremely cautious. The service here falls far below acceptable New Zealand standards. I cannot recommend this store.

   The sales people are very pushy. I was given a $250/wk quote for Chinese medicine that I have never had before and I wasn't sure about it so said I needed to think about it overnight. Their attitude made me feel extremely uncomfortable. In their mind, the quote was cheap and I was stupid not taking it straight away. And I was pressured by ×3 ladies at the same time. Understand it is a business but please be respectful to your customers.

   The front desk gave me the feeling that answering one more question was like wasting her life. At the end, I asked for 30 yuan in cash, saying it was the doctor's consultation fee (you can swipe the card for other acupuncture and massage, I don't understand. Why is it best to pay in cash for the consultation fee), I said that if there is no cash, there is only a card, and then the receipt does not show the doctor's consultation fee, but shows cash out. I have been there several times before, why is this time special? On the contrary, the doctor's attitude is not bad.

   There must be a reason why a company can exist for hundreds of years. Recently, I was in a bad mood due to the failure of pregnancy preparation. I came to Tongrentang with my wife on Wednesday to recuperate my body. Unfortunately, there was no Chinese medicine doctor for consultation that day. The girls at the front desk answered many of our questions very professionally and patiently, which relieved my anxiety a lot. She makes us pay more attention to our own health, instead of neglecting our health and going to the extreme to pursue a child. There can be many meanings in life, and everything needs fate. After the operation, I will still come back and ask a Chinese medicine doctor to help regulate my body. Although we don't know the girl's name, we are very grateful for her guidance and help.
