Last Wednesday I went there, and the white-haired lady cashier was extremely rude and arrogant. Not sure if it was menopause or something else, but I really wonder if she was ever properly taught how to treat customers with basic manners and respect. She clearly doesn’t know how to use words like “please” and “thank you.

Love this store . Its like a temu shop i always find items that I didn't realize I needed. It's not just a food market it offers nifty storage options at reasonable prices, bathroom items, make up, some great looking crockery with really cool designs, they have hair care, skin care , stationery, stickers and a lot more . The food market side of this shop offers great selection of items, Great pricing . Well organized shop Staff are very helpful especially the young man who has a voice made for radio.

Japan Mart in Manukau, located inside Westfield, has become a well-known spot for locals looking to buy authentic Japanese groceries, snacks, and household items. As one of the larger branches in Auckland, the store offers a wide and impressive range of products—from pantry staples like sushi rice, miso paste, soy sauce, noodles, and cooking sake, to frozen goods such as mochi, seafood, and ready-to-eat dumplings. You’ll also find a large variety of Japanese snacks, sweets, canned drinks, teas, and instant meals, along with beauty products, cleaning supplies, and unique kitchenware. It really is a treasure trove for anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine or culture. That said, while the variety is definitely a strong point, the in-store experience could be improved. One of the most noticeable issues is the layout and presentation of the space. The store often feels cluttered, with large cardboard boxes and stock sitting in the aisles or near the shelves, which can make it difficult to move around freely—especially during weekends when foot traffic increases. It takes away from the overall shopping experience and can give the impression of a warehouse rather than a polished retail environment. Another major point of feedback from customers is the pricing. While it’s understandable that imported goods come with added costs, some prices feel excessive. For example, a single small chocolate bar can cost upwards of $6, and items like instant noodles or basic frozen dumplings are often priced much higher than at other Asian supermarkets. This makes it harder to justify shopping here regularly, especially when more affordable alternatives exist. Many customers have commented that while they enjoy the authenticity and selection, they find themselves picking and choosing carefully or only shopping for specific items they can’t get elsewhere due to the high prices. Promotions do run from time to time—such as “buy three, get one free” deals—which are appreciated, but they don’t necessarily balance out the steep cost of many everyday products. Despite these issues, Japan Mart in Manukau continues to attract loyal customers, mainly because it offers a unique range of Japanese products that are hard to find in other stores. The staff are generally friendly and helpful, and the checkout process is usually efficient. It’s also conveniently located, making it easy to pop in while shopping at the mall. Overall, Japan Mart Manukau is worth visiting if you’re looking for specific Japanese items, are planning a themed meal, or simply want to explore interesting snacks and ingredients. However, shoppers should be prepared for a somewhat cramped environment and expect to pay premium prices. With a bit of improvement in organisation and more competitive pricing, this store could easily go from good to great.

Delighted with a purchase of 6 single gratin dishes... at a great price. Japan Mart is always fine quality, though not the cheapest, so this really was a nice surprise. Great also for Japanese style food products which nowhere else ever has.
