Such a cute local Japanese restaurant, serving good food and good vibes. The waitress recommended the plum and peach fruit sake which was extraordinary! Lovely fruity aftertaste. Soft shell crab with the curry salt was delicious - definitely a favourite. Nigiri and aburi was fresh and we recommend having the eggplant with rice on the side.

We had the most fantastic experience at Icco last week. Have been wanting to come here for a very long time and we finally made it and it was worth every minute. It was the best Japanese cuisine we have had in Auckland. We had the large sashimi plate and I don’t normally like salmon that much but the salmon and all the other fish that came with it was super fresh and the entire plate was presented beautifully. The spring rolls were light and delicately balanced with a yuzu dressing, the eggplant dish and karaage chicken were delightful and we finished it all off with yummy desserts. I would also highly recommend the roasted rice tea which was delicious. The service was impeccable, really friendly warm and inviting and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you for a great night.

Great little Japanese restaurant with great Japanese hospitality. The food was done very well and well presented. Sashimi was fresh and they even have special soy sauce for it. Tempura prawn Sushi was very good and was the vegetable tempura. Tempura was fresh and batter was light and nice.

Always our favourite Japanese restaurant! Especially like the Asahi beers. I also like the eggplants, cold veggie dishes, sashimi, sushi, and tempura. Very Yummy!

Stunningly beautiful food. The best Japanese restaurant in Auckland, hands down. Exceptionally fresh seafood prepared with such care and skill… attention to detail across all elements of plating and service… a warm, relaxed yet higher-end dining experience - it’s one of the best meals out I’ve ever had. The food was just immaculate - after tasting this tempura prawn maki you understand what this dish could be… so juicy and massive and generous and fresh are those prawns with that tender perfect rice and light tempura crunch paired with the creamy avocado - it’s just incredible. The sake selection is also so beautiful… there is so much crap sake floating around Auckland… this is the standard of excellence. We had such an amazing time. It’s a really special place.

A lovely, warm and intimate restaurant with a very welcoming staff and open kitchen interior. Came in for dinner after 8pm and there were available seats without waiting. Ordered the Teriyaki Shiki Tofu with rice, and the dish arrived beautifully presented. Tofu was cooked well and tasty, and on the same plate there were tempura vegetables, crispy kumera chips, a puree, pickled cabbage salad, and okoge (waffer of crispy rice). I loved all the different textures, they were a delight to eat and it all came together so well. Houji-cha Tea Crème Brûlée was incredibly delicious and a must try. It was a wonderful dessert to end the meal.

The food are great with good portion without feeling overfill. The food were so good that I forgot to take more photos. The staff are friendly, attentive, and accommodating; even when they were understaffed. They also paid a good attention to details and I really liked their origami table ornaments. Car park is behind the restaurant, through the narrow alley next to the restaurant which is easily missed.

Always a good time, and fun experience trying out the ever changing specials. I rememeber when they first opened about 7 years ago, when the shop was just a husband and wife team. The wonderful thing is that everything has stayed the same throughout the years. Great service, great quality, and lovely ambience. I must say though, I've been enjoying the bento boxes - that's been a most welcome addition! Great options for transport as well, with a bus stop just across the road, free parking down a wee alleyway next to the shop, and right next to the Morningside train station!

I made same day reservation. When I arrived, supervised with name card on the table. It was delicate and beautiful. They were using premium tofu brought out taste slightly different from others. Bigger thigh pieces they presented for Chicken Kara-age, full of ginger and soy flavour. Tempura bettered light and crisps, one bite after another, can’t stop. This was my first time.
