   Absolutely Awful Experience – Would Never Recommend! We had one of the worst experiences at this place, and I feel it’s my duty to warn other travellers. We booked this through Airbnb as we were travelling from Auckland to Wellington for a business reason—with our 3-month-old baby. We were already tired and stressed, and what we needed most was a warm welcome and a peaceful night. Sadly, we got the complete opposite. From the get-go, the host “Annante” was extremely rude and unwelcoming. She laid down so many rules like we were staying for free, and acted as though she was doing us a huge favour. We got late to check in (that’s why we pay for a room to stay right?)She insisted we arrive before 10pm. Due to poor weather and travelling with a baby, we got delayed by about 30 minutes. When we informed her, she responded harshly, with no understanding or empathy. We were frustrated and even considered cancelling the booking, despite having paid. Airbnb couldn’t arrange another place at that hour, so we stuck with it after she reluctantly agreed to wait just 30 more minutes—because, in her words, she “wanted to sleep early.” When we finally arrived, she greeted us with a sour face, gave us more rules than a boarding school. The floor was old and creaky, and she expected us to walk very quietly. Every step echoed, and we were paranoid the whole night about making a sound. Our baby cried a bit during the night, as babies do, and we were constantly stressed about disturbing her. We even ended up sitting outside in the cold with our little baby just to avoid her anger. I felt sorry for baby .We didn’t even know if we were allowed to eat, but I quickly microwaved some food—and to make things worse, her cats jumped up trying to get into my plate. Absolutely disgusting. The room had a heavy, uncomfortable, cluttered vibe—like a gypsy’s den, with no warmth. She was sneaking around in the morning to check if we were walking quietly or closing doors properly. I kid you not—it felt like we were thieves in the night, even after paying $180+. To top it all off, the next morning, she scolded my husband, saying she couldn’t sleep peacefully because of us. She was furious about a tiny bit of makeup powder that had fallen on the floor.My husband wiped it with a tissue.(I felt so sad hearing that later)He didn’t say a word back out of decency, even though we were so angry. This woman ruined our first impression of Wellington. Her attitude left a bitter taste in our mouths. We couldn’t shake off that bad vibe the whole day, despite trying to enjoy the city. Thankfully, the following two nights we booked into proper hotels and could finally breathe. To be honest, if she values her sleep that much and can’t handle guests like a decent host should, she shouldn’t be in the hospitality business at all. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but we were treated very differently—and it did feel like racism . She was nothing short of nasty. Please don’t waste your time, money, or peace of mind at this place. Life’s too short to deal with people like this, especially when you’re travelling with a baby. This was our first and last time using Airbnb. Lesson learned the hard way.
