Taking up Aikido has been lifechanging. It's fun, fascinating and challenging. I love the atmosphere at Aikido Silverdale. Very welcoming. Students from all walks of life. Dunken Sensei has a informal but knowledgeable approach. Beautiful dojo. Highly recommend!
I have followed the IOAI for many years and watched the Institute develop into an all round - open minded club that throws politics out the door and lets students learn at their own pace and their own competent level no matter what style they practice in their own dojo. I have brought a few of my own students to his seminars that are packed with so much information and training ideas from some very high tier instructors who are more than willing to help out any and all visitors. Head instructor Sensei Dunken Francis is not afraid to pressure test any techniques and look at cross-training with other styles, something not often found in the dojos with old style attitudes. Highly recommended!
Great dojo for kids classes! Dunken has the right mix of play and discipline for teaching such a practical martial art. Aikido has had real life benefits for my kids standing up to bullies. Thank you!

This place is a rare find. Authentic, respectful, but at the same time fun environment. Dunken is an amazing person who immediately sees your strength and works to bring the best out of you. I can only recommend!
An open minded and friendly place to train with great facilities. Their cross training events are sublime and attract excellent instructors from across multiple martial arts disciplines, all fostered by its head instructor and all round decent guy Dunken.
This dojo is a super friendly, fun environment to learn. Very welcoming to complete beginners. Great place to learn self confidence, get fit and meet great people.
Best place to learn aikido in the whole of the north island, took my sister here to build her confidence because of school bullying and its changed her life for the better. 10/10 recommend, good for every age and such a good environment :)
