    I parked on Allington Rd at that accessway. You have to park on the side of the road as there's no dedicated car park. No toilets or rubbish bins. It's a 4×4 gravel road, so it's easy walking mostly uphill with a couple of flats and declines. Follow the track all the way to summit deck lookout, and also watch out for mountain bikers as the tracks cross over the gravel road multiple times (there's signs to warn you to look out) spectacular views at the summit of the surrounding areas can also see south island. Roughly took me 35-45 minutes to summit.

    If you're a mountain biker and you haven't ridden Makara, then you need to put it on your to do list. There's an awesome range of trails to suit everyone - beginners through to experts. The tracks are well marked, beautifully maintained, and ride well when wet.

    Great views from here. You can get up here by mountain bike using the various Makara bike park trails or on foot. If walking, the closest access would be via the entrance near the summit of Makara road, about half an hour to walk up from there.
