Was trying to find a frozen turkey after Christmas and Waqar, the duty manager, was instrumental in helping me. He was friendly, professional and went above and beyond to help me. He attitude was excellent, he was kind and thoughtful and he made sure that my customer experience was 1st class. Am very grateful for his outstanding help today.

Absolutely hopeless management staff with no training or brainpower to make adult decisions. We waited 20 mins in the checkout to purchase some wine with our groceries. 2x clear over 40+ adults with grey hair, rejected to purchase liquor because we have Australian ID. Meanwhile have been happily purchasing beers for the past week through express checkout with intelligent staff that can clearly see we are of age. Get some standards. Get some staff training. Get some management who can make reasonable adult decisions. Absolutely terrible standards where tourists can not purchase liquor because they do not have NZ Identification. No other family members have been asked for ID. So good work for keeping standards! Happy spend our money across the street at the bottle shop, where people with half a brain can transact accordingly. Totally disappointing Pak n save Royal Oak. Thanks Yokona and the manager you called to check. The manager had no empathy, did not give a stuff about the situation, and could not answer what tourists normally do for purchasing alcohol. No solutions or clues whatsoever. Seems double standards with limited training, where it all depends on who you get on the day to purchase alcohol. The manager who turned up needs to get his glasses checked, we are clearly over 18. Called and spoke to senior manager who questioned further what happened, and agreed this was out of the norm. Transaction #05017 005 2951 0035 for further training clearly required.

Judith at the checkout was absolutely amazing! She was so warm, cheerful, and attentive — you can really feel the positive energy she brings to everyone around her. Our short chat felt so natural and friendly, and her enthusiasm completely brightened our day. My friend and I left the store genuinely happy because of her kindness. It’s rare to meet someone who makes a simple grocery trip feel so nice! We’ll definitely come back to this supermarket instead of New World or Woolworths — all thanks to Judith’s great attitude and energy. She truly represents what good customer service should be.

The staff were soo terrible. They didn't know what was in their falooda and wouldn't tell us either...found it soo bizarre! They couldn't communicate or talk..such a shame because the place looks beautiful but they need to hire better staff!!!

Pak’nSave Royal Oak is a busy, well-known spot that locals rely on for cheap groceries, but it definitely has its ups and downs. The prices are great — like all Pak’nSaves, it’s one of the most affordable places to do a full shop, especially if you’re feeding a family or trying to stretch the budget. But don’t go in expecting a relaxed, peaceful shopping experience. It gets packed. Almost every day of the week, the place is buzzing with people, and weekends can feel like a full-on mission just to get a trolley through the aisles. The store itself is on the older side. The layout works, but it’s not the easiest to navigate when it’s crowded. Aisles can feel narrow with trolleys going in every direction, and some areas get a bit messy. You’ll often find good deals, especially on bulk items, meat, and pantry staples. The produce section is okay, but not the most consistent. Some days you’ll find fresh, decent-quality fruit and veg, and other days it looks like it’s been sitting there a while. The bakery and deli sections have the basics, nothing too fancy, but they do the job. The meat department usually has good pricing, though again, quality can be a bit hit or miss depending on when you shop. They do cater pretty well to the local community, and you’ll find a decent range of international products. Customer service is a mixed bag. Some staff are helpful and friendly if you stop and ask, others are clearly just trying to get through the day. Don’t expect anyone to come up and ask if you need help — it’s more of a “grab it and go” kind of environment. There are self-checkouts, which help a bit, but queues can still get long, especially around 5pm or during weekend rushes. Parking is one of the main headaches. The carpark is tight and fills up quickly. You really have to be patient, especially during peak times. It’s in a busy spot right near Royal Oak Mall, so there’s a constant flow of traffic in and out. One thing to watch out for is the in-store availability vs what’s advertised online. They don’t always match up, so if you’re going in for something specific you saw on the website, it’s a bit of a gamble whether it’ll actually be there. Overall, Pak’nSave Royal Oak does what it’s supposed to — saves you money. But you’ve got to be ready to deal with the crowd, limited parking, and the no-frills vibe. If you’re after a bargain and don’t mind a bit of chaos, it’s worth it. Just don’t expect it to be stress-free.

This store has gone down hill in the last 4months Blocking the entrance to the store with freezers and pallets of food reducing the entry to two single file walkways is not just frustrating when people stop in the “isle of value”, but probably an emergency exit violation aswell. (Yes I have reported and spoken to staff, not interested) I made it as far as the “fresh” chicken, looking for wings or nibbles, but it was so badly butchered I couldn’t tell what was what, it looks like they are using a chainsaw to chop up the chicken. Sorry won’t be back!

I don’t know why but it was very busy the day that I went, the entrance didn’t not allow for a flow on effect when I entered, we were crammed in the front awaiting for those in front of us to gather there produce or weave through the maze trying to make it through the produce section. I do think there could be better standards for the produce some were below par especially the spring onion which should have been thrown away as they were bruised also they were priced at $2.99 a bunch which is overly priced for it’s current state. I will commend them on the variety of meat and it’s prices very cheap and manageable cuts. Our cashier she was very good and very accommodating which I can appreciate.

People stock up foods before the Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle, leading some empty shelf. Overall you can still find most of the items you need or some replacements.

Great supermarket with competitive prices in comparison to Countdown or New World. My only criticism is that it’s often a bit overcrowded, and various items do tend to run out of stock from time to time. It’d be great to see them adopt self service kiosks. Treat this as constructive criticism as I still shop here regularly! Hamish Dorrington Kakapo Business Sales
