Walked in at lunch time, nicely greeted and beautifully custom-made sushi straight away for immediate consumption haha. So hungry, so delicious. Highly recommended
Café Sushi is a tiny gem tucked away inside the cinema complex in Mt Eden, Auckland. Despite its small size and being operated by just one hardworking person, the restaurant has a unique charm that keeps locals coming back, especially for the sushi. The one-woman show is quite impressive; she takes orders, prepares food, and manages everything on her own. It’s clear that running this place solo is a tiring task, and it's evident that she doesn't have much time or energy to clean tables between customers. However, this seems to be the status quo, and she’s been managing it like this for quite some time. The sushi is the standout here—freshly rolled to order, and you can taste the difference. There’s something special about watching your sushi being made right in front of you, which adds to the appeal. On the other hand, dishes like teriyaki are pre-cooked and simply reheated on the grill when ordered. While some may see this as a drawback, it's completely understandable given the limited resources; cooking everything from scratch would be impossible without additional help. Though there isn’t a lot of variety beyond sushi, the regular stream of customers shows that people appreciate the quality and convenience of the food. Café Sushi has its limitations, but the dedication and effort put in by the owner shine through. It’s not a fancy spot, but it’s reliable, and the sushi always hits the mark. If you’re in the area and in the mood for a quick, fresh bite, this little place is worth a visit.
Perfect place to stop on your own or small group. Chicken Katsu was really good, generous serving with avo in the salad. The chicken was excellent quality very thin and lightly breaded. Could have used more rice, more sticky.
Seriously the best sushi I’ve ever put in my mouth. Maybe the best thing I’ve put in my mouth, period. Super fresh ingredients and preparation, and really delicious. You can tell a lot of love goes into the food and the service. Will be coming back!

This is THE best sushi spot in auckland. The food is truly the best in the city. The service is top notch. And the vibes are immaculate. There is no better restaurant in new zealand. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful sushi! This warm, talented sushi chef has been running this shop for over 15 years and she is still turning out deliscious lunches. I've been stopping in for over a decade ❤️ The prawn tempura and avocado sushi is my favourite. She serves it fresh and warm - right on the bar. You can have a beer or a soda and watch the TV in a peaceful hideaway.
