Had an amazing experience with the Wellington Embassy of Japan. From beginning to end, everyone was super supportive and friendly, answering the many questions I had to ensure my application was ready to hand-in before the Xmas shutdown period. Iβm very grateful for the help and assistance I received here by everyone I encountered

Sadly fell victim to a mixture of a badly designed website, a rather unfriendly system, and misinformation from chatGPT. I live in Auckland, I need a WHV urgently, Auckland has 2+ weeks wait time to now get a mandatory appointment to submit a visa application. Then whatβs the solution? Apparently none because going to a different embassy is not allowed. And well thatβs what I did, I spent $250 on a day trip to the capital to be unpleasantly declined by the man at the counter who called it a βlearning experienceβ for trusting chatGPT. Itβs 2025, get with the programme. To me, it really sounded like βthis is Aucklandβs job and I donβt want to do it for themβ, which honestly is a shame. If one embassy is overbooked while the other not at all, why shouldnβt I be allowed to put in the time, effort, and money to go across the island to go to the less busy one and get my application started. Itβs not like I didnβt do anything, I took work off, I spent a big chunk of money and I sat in a bus for 20+ hours total. When I have to renew my French passport, I am forced to go down to Wellington to do that. Why is it different with Japan? Why are we being lazy for no reason? βIf I let you do it, then everyone will do it.β No, not everyone will do it. Because it costs money and time. People in a big rush might have to resort to doing so, and should be allowed to. The website is also badly designed. Itβs hard to even tell this is a rule. Itβs also got two different checklists and different info depending on what page of the website you are on. The cherry on top is that there now is an appointment available in 2 days in Auckland, and another one in 4. Yesterday, there wasnβt a single slot free for any of the days in the upcoming 2+ weeks. Did many people cancel at once, or is it another result of a badly designed website? Hard to tell. What I know is that kindness goes a long way, and sadly I received none this morning. I now have 9 hours until my bus back to Auckland as I ponder why I just spent my rent on this useless trip.

Excellent services. Friendly and professional security officer, equally excellent the guy and the woman at the Visa Counter. Smooth and easy process. Submitted documents via courier and collected the passport in-person.

Issued my Japan visitor visa within 5 working days as promised. The visa fee is really reasonable at 35 NZD. I had to change the passport collector one time and just informed them via e mail. No issue was there at the collection point. They have nicely updated the authorizing person. No additional queries raised in the process. Thanks for the friendly and puntual service.

I appreciate their quick response to my questions either via email or call. They are so efficient and accommodating. I wonder if the low star ratings got mixed between the two websites of jpn embassy, auckland and wellington.

Iβm a Japanese and I went there to sort out my visa stuff last year. There was a Japanese woman who was really rude and patronising. Told my friends about her and everyone knew who I was talking about...

We applied for visitor visas three times now in person, and each time we were greeted by the same employee. She was very professional and to the point. Visas came down within a week and there was never any trouble.
