Service was not good. The food was good apart from the dessert. The dessert was very wet and sloppy and did not taste good at all. They only have one dessert on the menu and they are better off not having a dessert on offer at all. The wait time for the food was a little long despite us being the only one there. We didn’t mind it initially since we were happy to chat away. The main thing I didn’t like was the service. The server kept grabbing my plate before my last bite and I kept having to quickly scoop up the food. His hand was already holding the plate while I’m still eating. But he only did this to me and not the others in my group?

We went here because it was close to our hotel and the reviews were good. Did not disappoint with the taste. Lovely food. Basic menu but tasty and that's what you want.

Awesome service with some good chat and dish recommendations. Menu not huge but everything has good flavours. Cool venue but can get loud if pub below has a band on. Scampi and clams were very good. Good value too.

There is nothing I've wanted more than to get myself to Underground Bistro! I've been making and cancelling reservations for almost a year due to work and family commitments, and FINALLY all my ducks were in a row to try the long awaited seafood menu of my dreams! Firstly, I need to acknowledge just how delightful the customer service was. From the phone service, to the face-to-face greeting and interractions to the friendly laughs and conversations, right to the sincerity from the cook for the delay of ONE dish - The Father and Son duo who served myself and a friend on the day were humble, bubbly, humorous and best of all, themselves. It was giving.. "Welcome! Come on in! We're ready to serve you fresh, delicious and really good and honest food" and that they did! From the fresh, briney coromandel oysters and vinaigrette to the seared scallop, tuna and mushroom skewers (of which we easily could've scoffed another 10) our delectable journey of oceanic delights was off to an incredible start. If you're a seafood lover, then I truly recommend having at least THREE of the skewers per person. The sweetness of the scallop with the rich bite of the tuna, with the earthiness of the mushroom and all balanced out by the pops of acidity from the cherry tomatoes, really made for the perfect medley! And at $7 for two skewers, I could not have been happier! The grilled sardine bruschetta accompanied by a fresh tomato salsa reminded me of the humble lunches my grandparents used to eat. I never liked sardines when I was younger and yet, I ordered this dish without hesitation as it reminded me of my childhood. I really and truly loved everything about this dish! It strangely reminded me of a warm hug and the simple yet delicious and humble food my grandparents used to make us kids all the time. So simple and incredibly flavoursome. I could eat this over and over again - excellent! The Arancini Balls - really something special! Our cook (the father) was suuuper apologetic as these came out last. However... He GENUINELY made them from scratch! He made a fresh batch of risotto, waited for it to cool, before he flaked in a generous amount of smoked fish, mixed, seasoned, fashioned them into balls before frying until golden and crisp! The amount of work that went into making these was really appreciated and undoubtedly, the best arancini I've ever had! These were light, flavoursome, delisciously crispy and held together really well. Everybody NEEDS to order these! We also ordered the grilled scampi and the panfried kingfish and snapper with the mushroom medley and risotto with the beurre noisette sauce. Layers and layers of DELISH!!! That risotto stands on its own - how does one make rice so exquisite? The kingfish was meaty and fresh and cooked to perfection! It was caramelized from the panfry and yet still so moist and well seasoned. The scampi needs to come with a scissors (hahaha!!) But the fingerbowl is a much needed addition. Super sweet, springy to the bite and juicy. Lastly, the handcut fries with truffle oil and parmesan? By far, my most FAVOURITE truffle fries I have EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! They're three-times-cooked, seasoned reeeeally well, suuuuper truffley and ADDICTIVE! There was NEVER a moment where my best friend and I weren't smiling at eachother whilst eating these. I need three servings of these IMMEDIATELY! All in all, I most definitely WILL be returning to Underground Bistro. Auckland has a wild range of really spectacular restaurants, however Underground Bistro really IS exceptional! Atmosphere, customer service, friendly kiwi banter, a plethora of fresh seafood options, an exciting menu of cocktails and something to fit everyones budget in the heart of Auckland City? Hats off to the father and son duo who run the show! From a South auckland girlie who was raised on Kaimoana, Underground Bistro gets a 20/10 from me!! (yes, you read a 20 out of 10)

I went here for my birthday with a few friends and the food was delicious! Our favourite was the salmon and Greek salad. The truffle fries are super decadent. Waitress recommended a fruity wine and the bartender mixed cocktails specially. The whole service team made us feel really welcome, and the chef even brought out a special birthday oyster for me. Loved the friendly vibes we will definitely be going back.

The food is decent but this restaurant isn't run well at all. Every second thing i tried to order was met with the response "sorree we're out of that", the first time i went there i just walked out (the waiter looked offended but I'm not spending my money on something i don't want) and the second time was the same but this time i ordered something else which was fine but every time I've been here has resulted in some kind of disappointment.

Not sure how this place got so many reviews. It took 40mins to get our entre, fries and bread. The mains were below average. Cold environment, slow service. This place should discount their prices 40%, it's amateur hour here.

Delicious! Had the scallop skewers & Greek salad, highly recommend. Fresh seafood & the best Greek salad I’ve had outside of Greece. Lovely waiter- great vibes. Go there!

Love St Kevins Arcade and this is a great addition with its singular seafood focus. We popped in for an early dinner and were delighted with the service experience and food. The kitchen team are obviously passionate about doing simple food well, classic focus on the ingredients with no fuss. Prawns as a sharing dish were superb and we both had snapper, one with Greek salad and one with risotto - I’d do that whole menu again in a flash. Perfectly cooked snapper and fresh, sharp, delicious salad. I’ll be back.

I ordered snapper fish burger and truffle oil fries. I quite disappointed about fries which was soaky and no crispy at all. And burger was fine but I asked more sauce to add. My friends ordered grilled fish with risotto which was too buttery that my mate couldn't have a risotto in much. Add poor pouring wine. I order 3glasses.
