   Disappointing Experience at Western Springs College As a student who attends Western Springs College, I feel compelled to share my disappointing experience. My time at this school was filled with several concerning issues: One of the most alarming issues of Western Springs College is the prevalence of vaping amongst students. A significant portion of students, including a large friend group within my core class, started vaping as early as Year 9. It was weird to witness my peers, as young as 13 or 14, taking part in this behavior within school premises. We even had hours of class time in Health discussing the negatives of vaping with these peers which didn't change them at all. The first time i found out about this and was offered a "puff" at the bus stop it confused me, the lack of effective measures to address this issue speaks volumes about the school's negligence towards the wellbeing of students. Secondly, Vandalism and damage to school property, particularly in the toilets, creates an unpleasant environment for students. To combat this problem, the school implemented an absurd protocol that inconvenienced students further. We were required to fill out a form with the time, and where in the school we were, supposedly to aid in identifying culprits through surveillance cameras. Additionally, we are restricted to only one student using the restroom at a time adding unnecessary delays and frustration during class time. These excessive measures not only disrupt learning but also fail to deter the perpetrators effectively as they aren't dumb and would just vandalize outside of class times during breaks if they wanted too (since these protocols aren't required during break times). Another issue not so significant, is the infrastructure of classrooms. Some classes are situated next to each other with nothing more than a television and whiteboard in between. As a result, noise from other classes can disrupt lessons, making it harder for students to concentrate. This lack of proper division between classrooms reflects a disregard for the importance of learning environments. Sadly this school isn't as good as the reviews years back make it out to be. Until big improvements are made, I cannot recommend Western Springs College to ANY students or parents.

   This school has poor academic quality and enthusiastic teachers. But the international office does not provide much support for students, and causes more stress for many students. The issue of accommodation for international students is also not guaranteed, and they do not listen to students. People should not attend this school

   Terrible experience and inconsiderate of students. I’m a student at Western Springs College, at the moment, I am typing my one-star review at school with numb fingers that have lost their warmth. The school has made it a rule where students are unable to go inside the main building except for going to the toilets. Because of this rule, we are currently suffering outside, it is 12 degrees celsius and sometimes it goes lower on days when the weather sides with the school. 3rd of August, in the middle of winter, we are unable to enjoy the break like normal, everyday me and my friends say “It’s so cold. It’s so cold. It’s so cold.” I do not recommend going here unless you bring a tent and a fur coat (hood included) with gloves.

   “oh my god it’s freezing!!!” Those words haunt me, I dream about it. August 2023, of one of Auckland’s coldest years; along with its continuous sets of hail. I am typing this as my fingers go numb, my body losing its feels, pores closing shut for its slightest hope that my veins won’t freeze into crystals. The simple “breeze” that teachers always talk about, is slowly consuming my soul. They forbidden us from our only hiding, kicking us outside, where we have to be among groups of people of the same situation as us. I don’t have much time left, by the time you’re reading this, my limb’s gone purple, and I will be on my death bed… the cold… it got me. run. It will consume you. until you can no longer feel anything. don’t be like us. run.

   Cannot express how amazing this school is. Talented and personable staff who are open to being called by their first names and who communicate to pupils on a equal level. By the time you graduate you'd have a friend-worthy relationship with a number of teachers (still to this day have lots of Facebook). Students are encouraged to step up to the mantle and mature early on, and there is a noticable level of maturity difference when they travel to interschool events and house parties (when you're a bit older ;) ). There is room for students to form tight friendships that will continue on for years after school ends while recieving a great education as well. I look back on my high school years with a rose tinted hue, nothing but glorious nostalgia and feelings of warmth when I remember how fantastic those years were.
