My husband and I did a group lesson with the Muriwai Surf School and had the best time! The instructors were very attentive and coached each of us individually, helping us improve. The beach was awesome (great for beginners)! We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend!
Surfed at Muriwai surf school on Nov 15th with Myma and Thomas. Had the BEST experience!!! Myma is amazing!!! Very patient with extremely good instruction! We were in a group of 8 and everyone was able to get up ! The location is fantastic and absolutely beautiful. Both Thomas and Myma gave great instructions and kept us all very safe. Even though there were 8 of us it felt like we were in a private lesson. Both Thomas and Myma spent plenty of one on one time with everyone and we all had an amazing experience. Highly recommend!!!
Awesome experience learning from a range of instructors who are seasoned, well travelled and full of knowledge. Big shout out to Dylan and Myma who've made the 5 week beginner programme accessible, safe and fun! Plus, met some amazing people to now surf with. Back for the November run yeewwww!
When I first walked down to watch the waves waiting for me at Muriwai Beach, I never imagined I’d actually be able to surf them. But Muriwai Surf School proved me wrong. It was my very first time surfing, and I still can’t believe how amazing it went. I booked the three-lesson pack and had beginner classes with both Jakob and Myma. They’re incredibly kind, patient, supportive and always ready to explain things in different ways until you get it. Something that I loved was how they taught me to read the sea, in other words to really understand how the waves works before trying to ride it. That insight completely changed the way I see the beach. I’d recommend this school. In fact, It’s more than just a surf school, it’s a family. From the moment you step onto the property, you’re surrounded by smiles, good vibes, and people who genuinely love what they do. There are friendly dogs that come to play, great music in the background, the sound of native Tūī birds, the smell of salt in the air, and that breathtaking endless view of Muriwai and it’s black volcanic sand. You don’t just leave knowing more about surfing, you leave with a piece of Muriwai in your heart. The only problem is, you’ll find yourself wanting to come back again to catch a few more waves. Had an amazing time! The natural scenery was beautiful and the waves were perfect for surfing. The staff were absolutely fantastic - so fun and cheerful that time just flew by. Honestly, I'd come back to New Zealand just to visit this surf school again!
I booked the 3 x intermediate one-on-one private lesson package with Muriwai Surf School and it was great. My confidence in the surf has improved heaps and I have learnt some new techniques to ride the wave better. The instructors were great and very professional. Definitely recommend if you’re wanting to take your surfing to the next level.
Had an amazing time with these guys during a beginner’s group class last Friday. Despite the recent devastation and complications following the floods, they have somehow managed to get back on their feet and provide a day full of ease, fun and pure delight. Big thanks to our teacher (James, I believe) —his love for surfing was contagious! Both his patience and clear instruction enabled me and my partner to catch nearly every wave we went for. We’ll be back, thank you!

The lesson was SO FUN, Dylan was an awesome teacher to both my partner and I who were beginners. He was really supportive, patient and helpful. Would highly recommend this school :)
