Must visit for nature lovers butI found pros and cons both. Pros: βœ… Breathtaking Coastal Views – The park offers dramatic cliffs, crashing waves, and panoramic ocean views. Perfect for photography and nature lovers. βœ… Black Sand Beach – The volcanic black sand adds to the park’s unique charm, though it can get very hot on sunny days. βœ… Gannet Colony – One of the biggest attractions, the gannet nesting site offers a rare opportunity to observe these beautiful seabirds up close from a viewing platform. βœ… Great for Surfing – Muriwai Beach is popular among surfers due to its strong waves, but swimming can be risky due to powerful currents. βœ… Walking & Hiking Trails – There are scenic tracks like the Maukatia Bay Track, offering fantastic views. βœ… Sunset Spot – A great place to watch the sunset over the Tasman Sea. Cons: ❌ Very Windy – Strong winds can make the sand blow onto your face, especially on the beach. ❌ Dangerous Surf – The waves and rips can be powerful, so it's important to swim only in patrolled areas. ❌ Can Get Crowded – On weekends and summer days, it attracts a lot of visitors, making parking difficult. ❌ Limited Facilities – There are restrooms and picnic areas, but not many food options nearby, so it’s best to bring your own snacks.

Muriwai Beach is a stunning spot on Auckland’s west coast with unique black sand, powerful waves, and amazing coastal views. Great for surfing, scenic walks. Just be mindful of the strong surf/current if you’re swimming. Perfect for a day trip from Auckland!

Beautiful place to hangout with kids for a whole day. There are soft black sanded beaches without any rough piece and bit so you and little ones can easily walk on it and relax, don't mention the walkways with amazing views.

The rocky area is beautiful and there are many natural birds here. Nearby is a long wide beach, strong wind. There are many parking areas around, can park camvan. From the parking lot to the view point is quite close and easy to walk. Pay attention: Dogs, other animals and pets are prohibited at all Auckland Council regional parks' bookable sites and accommodation. The exception is registered aid dogs. You will need to advise our staff at time of booking if you have a registered aid dog for an exemption. Dogs are allowed in regional parks only as stated in the dog walking section of the park's information and in theΒ Regional Parks Management Plan. All other animals are prohibited at all times, unless you have a permit issued by Auckland Council. Our regional parks are smoke-free.

One of the best regional parks - you can have sea, mountain and birds with stunning views. The playground was super fun for kids while most people coming here for surfing or see the garnet colony. It’s a paradise for bird lovers or photographers. This is a perfect for capturing the West Coast sunset!
