   I received a letter from Andrew Davies that contained several false assumptions about me — including claims that I had published Facebook posts and produced a podcast episode that simply do not exist. However, the most concerning part of his letter was his statement that I had “mocked and mispronounced” his client’s Māori name in a supposedly “racially offensive and disrespectful” way. As someone with dyslexia, this accusation was not only baseless but personally insulting. Mispronunciation is an ordinary part of my disability — not an act of racism, disrespect, or defamation. For a lawyer to weaponise race in a situation where it clearly does not apply is irresponsible and unprofessional. For context, I am an investigative journalist whose work exposing Ponzi schemes and financial fraud has been featured by Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Guardian, Channel 9 News Australia, and major New Zealand media. I’m widely recognised as one of New Zealand and Australia’s leading scam-fighters, and this is supported by publicly available sources, including Wikipedia. Mr Davies is defending an individual who encouraged a young New Zealander to put their entire savings into a Ponzi-style operation that the Financial Markets Authority has formally warned the public about. Instead of addressing those serious concerns, his response was an intimidating letter filled with incorrect claims and inflammatory language. In my view, this behaviour falls far below the standard of diligence and integrity expected of a legal professional. I will be submitting a formal complaint to the New Zealand Law Society regarding the racial insinuation, factual inaccuracies, and overall conduct displayed in his correspondence. If you are seeking legal representation, I recommend exercising caution and choosing someone who works from verified facts rather than unfounded accusations.
