   I trained at Coast Academy BJJ a few years back and genuinely believed it was a community built on respect and trust. After a personal relationship with a higher belt ended, I was gradually made to feel unwelcome and eventually pushed out. Even when I offered to attend separate classes to avoid any conflict, I was told it was “too complicated.” It’s been a while, but the experience stayed with me because it showed how easily a “team” can turn away from fairness when status is involved. I hope the academy has since reflected on how to better support all students, regardless of belt or relationship dynamics.

   We took our 9 year old girls here with their friend to build confidence and a bit more discipline, although one has medical issues with concentration the instructors were great and patient. We had hoped they would carry on however they did not feel quite ready for competitions and this year has been tough financially. Perhaps when they are older they may wish to have another go. Thankyou Matt and Jayden and all the best.

   Great club!! Have had my boys and I in doing Kickboxing for the last few months and they love it. Jayden is an excellent teacher and is so good with the kids and adjusting the classes for them too, highly recommend for anyone looking at martial arts to start here as it is a well established club with good cleanliness and standards.

   Both of my boys (aged 5 and 7) go to Coast Academy and love it! The change in them has been incredible to see. From my very socially shy, nervous 5 year old refusing to go on the mat to now asking me every day if it’s ’ju-jitsu day’ to my 7 year old who initially felt a little out of his depths joining (he’s competitive like his mum), to now choosing the biggest kids to go up against and challenge himself. The support this gym provides kids is second to none. Their patience, knowledge and ability to command the class is exceptional and I would recommend it to any parent. Now just waiting for my little girl to be old enough to join :)

   I have been going to Coast Academy for around 7 years now and it’s been great. Coast Academy is one big family. The coaches here take time with each student to make sure they know exactly what they are doing. The atmosphere here at this gym is so great as well, everyone is so kind, caring, supportive and helpful. The people who are part of this gym are so respectful and kind and willing to help if needed. I am proud to call Coast Academy second home.

   Great gym that caters for all ages. Would highly recommend you check them out...especially with the free trial on offer. The kids love it, as do the adults. The classes develop skills and confidence as well as resilience and perseverance.

   I was very impressed with the gym and all the instructors. It was a very smooth process from signing up, to my son attending training. The instructors conduct themselves in a very professional manner. I have also ordered merchandise on the CA website. Both Matt and Jaden are very responsive and I appreciate their prompt communication. The atmosphere is dissiplined and respectful and I look forward to the skills my son will obtain.

   Joining CA was absolutely life changing. Training in such a positive environment is not just enjoyable, but leads to other healthier lifestyle decisions too - outside of the gym. The knowledge and wisdom that is passed on from professors, coaches and higher belts is constantly flowing. I highly recommend Coast Academy if you are thinking about making a positive move in your life. I would offer a higher star rating, but I am only able to select 5 stars.

   I've been training martial arts for about 15 years, and this is one of the best gyms I've ever trained at. Small enough that you get lots of attention from the instructors, large enough that you have lots of different people to train with and learn from. Coast Academy has a great family atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and considerate in their rolling. Also the mats are very thick, on top of a wooden sprung floor, meaning they're the most forgiving mats I've trained on. This really helps for take downs and throws. Highly recommended!
