   I came here to buy alcohol. I was asked for ID, initially I was flattered as I’m in my mid 30s. The cashier who looked at my ID asked her coworker to come check it out - which is understandable because it’s a Canadian government ID. But then these girlies asked me if it was a real ID then proceeded to ask if I had New Zealand ID. For context, I’m on vacation and I spoke to both of them with my very Canadian, very North American accent. Why would I have New Zealand ID as a Canadian?? Make it make sense please.

   I was standing at the checkout, an older male worker came over threw some sample things in my trolley and offered me some chocolates. I took one and he says "ohhhh go on take a couple" so i grabbed about 4 and he said "noooooo you cant, put them back" and waited for me to put them back. I was overwhelmed because the checkout girl was waiting for me to pay, another lady was trying to hand me a calendar i had jst asked for and now he was talking to me about some chocolates. The way he reacted to me grabbing more chocolates after he asked me to, i was sooo embarrassed! Not impressed. I think he was the owner someone was saying. Just rude!!

   Me and my mum been shopping at island bay New World for over 10 years, but the way some staff treat customers is just unacceptable. Today, while shopping with my mum, we overheard two staff members at the checkouts clearly talking about us. When I made eye contact, one awkwardly asked if we were ready to check out even though it was obvious we were still shopping. It felt like a cover-up after being caught gossiping about us! It's frustrating to be treated like a thief Everytime we shop at new worlds. This kind of behavior is exactly why my mum and I now prefer shopping at Pak’nSave (unless we need 1 or 2 things as new world is closer then pak’nSave) as were not treated like thief’s. Btw If you're going to talk about customers, at least make sure they can't hear you.

   This store is selling products that state we can return it’s packaging to the store, the store won’t accept any packaging as they have stopping accepting it. If you’re selling such products and it’s your responsibility to accept the packaging and recycle it. If you don’t then stop stocking those products. The finger of blame is pointing at you, new world owners to put pressure on manufacturers to use compostable packaging.

   New World is very close to my house and the best place to go shopping to. It has food for years, has food for anything you’re looking to get. They have a good service, very easy shopping with the staff and clearly marked aisles. They have kind chatty staff and the staff can easily help you find what you’re looking for. They never run out of stock, so if what you’re looking for isn’t there, ask staff to get it. New World is definitely one of the greatest shopping markets in NZ.
