Every time I walk into Newtown New World, it feels like the staff are waiting for me to do something wrong. I even show my bag willingly because trust goes both ways—but somehow that still gets treated like I’m auditioning for “Most Likely To Steal.” Let’s be honest: who’s stealing from you? There’s nothing in that store worth the suspicion. The layout is a whole disaster. It looks like you’ve leased out every spare corner just to keep the rent paid. The only section with any real personality is the chemistry aisle, and that’s doing all the heavy lifting for the entire store. Tonight I politely asked a staff member, “Do you have a Club Card?” and somehow I got hit with a snarky, unnecessary, bias‑soaked tone like I’d asked for a kidney. If you’re going to talk to customers, at least watch your tone. Basic respect isn’t optional. And your security? If they’re meant to be intimidating or observant, it’s not landing. At all. Do better. Seriously.

Having to wait for a supervisor to buy an onion is ridiculous. Get more staff if you want your customers watched constantly or just bring back staffed checkouts!

Review: Unjust and Dehumanizing Customer Service Experience This afternoon, I walked into the market expecting a normal visit—but instead, I was met with suspicion and silent judgment. From the moment I entered, the security guard’s eyes were locked on me like I was a threat. I felt criminalized for simply existing in the space. It was invasive, humiliating, and deeply unfair. You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, yet that’s exactly what happened. I wasn’t treated like a customer—I was treated like a problem. The presence of people struggling outside your doors isn’t my fault, and it doesn’t justify profiling those who walk in. If your staff can’t distinguish between dignity and bias, you need to do better. This wasn’t just poor customer service—it was a failure of basic respect. I hope this review prompts serious reflection and change. Everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome, not watched and reduced to assumptions.

The place is organized and clean and has most of what you are looking for in terms of food, meat, vegetables and fruits. Their baked goods are the best, even compared to other New World branches.

They have very friendly staff and helpful with any questions you may have. but there is one Oder lady that works on check out, I will not say her name but find her very rude and unfriendly if wasn’t for her would give five star , Moving on this New World is probably the best in Wellington for selling Gluten products they hold every thing you need if you’re Celiac, they have good range of plant based vegan products in the fridge

Good selection of groceries. Meat is fresh. Becareful of New World parking up stairs as time limit is 90 mins and anything over you are likely to get a fine.

After suffering 6 or 7 brain haemorrhages which is unrelated to my extreme substance abuse(meth, heroin, crack) your finest employee Tom mcclapstien graciously grabbed me barely changing his perfectly crisp well ironed uniform. He grinned while his Abs shown the light into my eyes “I love you” he said as he sucked the haemorrhages out of my eyes with surgical precision. The feeling of his mouth sucking on my eye socket almost brought me to tears but his vacuuming mouth didn’t let a single tear fall. He said at the end “your safe now let me show our amazing deals” in a non confronting and friendly masculine voice. I whimpered as I was the most petit one in the room. looking into his blue orbs “yes please thank you” Thank you Newtown New World for bringing this 32 year old grandma back her younger years

I had been fatally shot by employees of Countdown Newtown when I stumbled, bleeding profusely, into this establishment. A young employee of this store, his uniform pristine and shining, dropped what he was doing and rushed to my aid. Using his amazing medical skills, he pulled the bullets out of me and I was healed instantly. I asked this young man his name and he said, with the voice of an angel, "Tim." I only wish I could have talked to him more but he left soon after, as he saw a helpless shopper who needed the assistance of an employee. Truly, this young man is the greatest New World employee of all time, and he should most definitely receive more pay from his employers. For all those that read this review, remember the name, Tim Clapham, and know that you are safe whenever you are in this establishment.

Love the music, you'll find me and the kids dancing down the aisles. Gluten free food selections. I wish they had organic veggies. Great checkout service! A cute litte cafe with gelato at checkout.

Cost of living seems a tad bit high in New Zealand, I spotted some $28 grainola here. Packs of crisps seem overpriced, too. I also forget that you can buy booze in grocery stores.
