Tried an Oreo lamington from the bakery. It was completely plain inside- wish it had a cream & jam filling.

Most of the staff are friendly and helpful — except for one middle-aged Asian lady with short, straight hair. She always wears a gloomy expression and seems determined to spread her bad mood to every customer she serves.

Interesting to see the most recent review about the security, as I had a similar (but different) experience yesterday 29/09/25. I went into New World after work to grab some olive oil. Grabbed the olive oil, went to the self check out, paid for it and as I was leaving, security stopped me and asked to search all my bags! I then had to go ahead and open up my gym bag, and my food bag, which contained the oil, to which he asked “is this was you paid for?” I replied with “yes, do you want to check the till?” He said no and “brushed” me away when he realised I had not stolen anything, and of course people were staring. It was beyond embarrassing. I go into that New World on a daily basis as my workplace is right next door - I will not be shopping there any more. I’ll go to the Woolworths on Lambton Quay instead. Absolutely no reason to search my bags, and even acknowledged the item I paid for! Do better.

I was shocked and deeply upset by an experience I had at your store today 25/09/2025. I had just completed my shopping and paid for my groceries when my wife called, asking me to grab an extra item. I went back inside, quickly found the item, and went to exit again. It was at this point that a security guard stopped me. He immediately became confrontational, questioning why I had re-entered and whether I had paid. I tried to explain the situation, but he wouldn't listen. When I couldn't produce a receipt on the spot, I offered for him to check the CCTV. Instead of using a professional method to verify my story, he pulled out his phone and took my picture. He then told me he would "keep this" and that I shouldn't "repeat this" behavior. I was completely taken aback. Not only did I feel accused of doing something wrong, but he also took my photo without my consent, which felt like a complete invasion of my privacy. I went home, retrieved my phone, and came back specifically to show him the digital receipt to clear things up. Even with proof in hand, he seemed completely unbothered. It was clear he was not interested in the truth, only in his own misguided assumptions. The lack of respect and professionalism was shocking. I have already filed a formal complaint. The conduct of this security guard was entirely unacceptable. Customers should not be treated with such suspicion and disrespect. The fact that he took my picture without any proof of wrongdoing is a serious overstep. I truly hope this situation is addressed, as no one should have to go through this.

It’s gone downhill the last few months. Half the time I go there things aren’t in stock so I abandon my shopping because I can’t make the meal I want to. No pork mince last week when it was on special.

The store itself is very pleasant, however it is a bit of a worrying experience when a group of three young staff members hanging around the self-checkout are openly laughing, discussing and joking about suicide and depression in front of customers. I would recommend that management speak to these young employees as this is not appropriate in front of customers.

This is my go to grocery. Can the cashier take off the club card member after it got scanned? I'm sure I have scanned it but this cashier (I think she's Indian) probably removed it. Purchase made on 2nd August for 38bucks.

It's Metro so things are more expensive but you do save time if you need to get something quick in the city. Would be nice if you can get some cake from the bakery section in the evening tho.

Handy of you work in town. Don't get put off by the long queue to checkouts. It moves quickly.

Seems like going through manned check-outs means packing your own bags. No one seems bothered to help you pack. So I am happy to take my sweet time and not rush
