I chose this mechanic based on a reasonable initial quote of around $400 for a service and $86 for a wheel alignment, which seemed reasonable compared to other quotes I got ($280β$550). I dropped off my Fiat Ducato van and asked them to check a strange noise while they were at it. They also mentioned fixing a headlight wire that was needed for the warrant. Unfortunately, the final bill came to $700βmuch higher than expectedβand after two days, only the service was done. The wheel alignment wasn't touched, and the headlight issue wasn't fixed properly, as the van still failed its warrant and I had to spend more time and money taking it elsewhere for repairs. The noise wasn't resolved either. Additionally, when I arrived, they had no parking on-site, so I had to park down the street. It was windy, and the door caught in the wind, causing it to go out of alignment. Now it leaks when it rainsβsomething that wouldn't have happened if I'd gone elsewhere. The mechanics seemed competent enough, but the experience was frustrating due to the extra costs, incomplete work, lack of clear communication, and the added damage from parking issues. Their website promises to take the pain out of vehicle maintenance, but this felt like the total opposite.

I've only used them for WOFs and advice but I have to say that every time, the team has gone the extra mile for me so I come away feeling well looked after and confident that it's a job well done and value for my money.

I have taken my car here over the years to get the warrant and other things that have popped up. I think they are very good. The prices feel reasonable and the communication is good. I would be confident in recommending MJ motors to anyone :)

My normal mechanic unfortunately passed away and we were referred to MJ Motors , my first initial experience was ok and they serviced car end of 2024 but then on getting it back something was wrong with tyres but they refixed it . Pricey at the time but needed it done. Sept 2025 , with cost of living and increase of petrol , car tyres , service alone (nothing lesser then $500 ) trying to get brakes done & service was looking between $800 - $1000 , so been shopping around to get various quotes . Other mechanics checked brake parts and have a base costs of Service to give quote ( at no charge). So wanted to see how much MJ Motors quote would be and advsied before starting on anything to ensure I could afford it, so email was sent & unfortunately it was quite excessive and was $600 more then other quotes I had gotten , so thank them for quote and was honest sorry it is out of my price range and that my son will pick up car. To my dismay my son gives me a invoice for $90+, so I ring this morning to ask what this was for and apparently it was for labour due to giving me a quote, Labour to hurst the car up to just look at the sizing of brakes ?? labour to lift up the bonnet? I was gobsmacked and if he had told me in the beginning for us to get a quote we need to charge you A,B,C - then I would of said , its ok OR sure . Just disappointed that wasn't advised of this initially as these little details matter and be upfront about it or its simple a) Give a quote based on knowledge (approx or est ) b) If its a thorough quote - then advise customer they will be charged SIMPLE

I would highly recommend MJ Motors to anyone looking for servicing your vehicle. Recently we called in to book headlight bulb changed and clear the fog on the headlamps. We were able to get an appointment quickly and the service was amazing and got the car back same evening. The price range was very affordable - we were quoted ridiculous amounts by other providers. Very happy with the service and have decided to do our yearly car service with them moving forward

A few hours they couldnβt tell me anything about what was wrong other than I owe them $240 for that privilege. Took the vehicle to a new shop, and for only 2 hours and $115 my car was fixed. They wasted my time and money so go somewhere else for anything diagnostic.

Micheal and his colleagues really are a great team. I had some major work that needed doing on my van, and needed it done quickly to be back on the road within a couple of days. I had been quoted an eyewatering amount by the AA who wanted to send the van to Lower Hutt for work. MJ Motors fit us in at short notice and got the work done quickly, efficiently, and for a fair price. Communication was excellent and they were a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommended their services.

Exemplary honesty. I went to this garage on the recommendation of our neighbor who has trusted him completely for a very long time. I wanted to do the WOF inspection. After starting the inspection, the expert (who looked a bit like young Russell Crow!) realized that our current WOF is valid for 6 months. Instead of going on, he called my husband to understand why we wanted a WOF (being a foreigner, I had misunderstood one piece of information: I thought we needed a WOF dated less than a month before putting the car up for sale; the expert explained to me that this was not the case). So I got the car back, without any fee being charged to us. I salute the honesty of this garage! In addition, the delays were fast (2 days to get the appointement).

Wof cost $80 and took 2 days. Review posted on no more cowboys was removed. This was my partners first experience getting a warrant for her first car, she was fully taken advantage of. Her van failed on brake pads that were recently replaced and 2 worn tires. She was quoted $445.50 to replace the brake pads and told they can't replace just the pads they only replace the pads and discs together. Also $240 per tire so a grand total of $925.50 in work that didn't need to be done plus $80 for wof inspection. We took it to vtnz the same day and passed a wof with no mention of issues with the brakes. 2 tires quoted from the mechanic we found cost us $120 including labour. On top of this level of fraud the mechanic mike made no effort to communicate or reach a fair outcome for us and refused to acknowledge that he was taking advantage of my partners limited knowledge. I would advise anyone thinking of using this business to avoid and use a reputable agency like vtnz or the AA for a wof and anyone else as a mechanic "
