Unhappy. I as a customer service worker know how rough it gets with the holiday season. However, these workers could not hide it in either their tone or body language. Making customers uncomfortable as if they are an inconvenience. This is your job! We went to have late breakfast (brunch), and were treated rudely. It seems like a good spot, although they need to rethink about their hires. When working in an industry like hospitality, you should be able to switch instantly. You can complain about it to your coworkers! yes, but not treat customers in the same way. I have no rating for their food as I did not end up eating there due to how I was treated, but the atmosphere and service is a big ZERO.

The atmosphere was lovely and the food was great. The only feedback from my partner was that the breakfast could’ve included beans, and his smoothie seemed more like juice than a proper smoothie. Aside from that, my meal was delicious and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

I am simply blown away by the amazing service I received today when I ordered 4 meals as unheated takeaways. The staff, two in particular, went to so much care in packaging it all up. They included the salad and individual dressings for each meal, all beautifully labelled. To top it all off the kind front of counter guy went and got me a trolley, as I also had shopping in my hands. Kind and helpful staff really do make a business . . . thanks team! And of course the meals, as always, are simply delicious.

The Glasshouse Cafe, located within Wellington’s sprawling California Home & Garden store, promises a charming escape with its lush greenhouse-inspired setting. As a first-time visitor, I was drawn in by the inviting blend of indoor and outdoor seating, surrounded by plants and garden decor — a serene spot for a coffee break. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of the idyllic atmosphere. Arriving just after 2pm, perhaps too close to closing time, the cafe felt rushed and understaffed. Despite my partner’s previous enjoyable visits, this trip was a letdown. The cakes, which we waited an unusually long time for, arrived disappointingly stale, as if they’d been sitting out for days. The coffee, sadly, tipped into over-extracted acidity, making it nearly undrinkable. While I’ve since seen glowing reviews praising the cafe’s usual quality, I can’t ignore the stark contrast with my own experience — it felt like catching them on an off day. That said, the ambiance alone is worth acknowledging. The airy, plant-filled space and relaxed outdoor seating area are undeniably appealing, perfect for garden lovers or anyone seeking a tranquil pause. Service, though slow, was polite, and I’ll cautiously chalk this up to timing rather than apathy. I’m open to revisiting The Glasshouse Cafe — maybe earlier in the day, with fresh bakes and a properly brewed coffee — to see if this was just a fluke. For now, though, my first impression leans more toward “meh” than “magical.” Proceed with tempered expectations, and aim for peak hours to maximize your chances of a better experience.

This cafe is located inside California & Home Gardening. Very nice ambience and exceptionally good service. As there was a big group of diners ahead of us, the service staff came to apologise and explain to us that there will be a longer wait time soon after serving our drinks. It is a pity that food served is not impressive. The pumpkin soup is served hot and nice but portion is too big so one dreads it towards the end. The bread is hard as it is fried and not toasted. The hashbrown is bland and not fragrant. Sausage and bacon are oily and dry. Of the 2 sunny side ups, one has its yoke burst. The latte also does not come in any art form. Will I come back for food? Probably not. But the service here is really top notch!

A quick visit for a coffee ☕️ and top class savouries and cakes. This cafe is very busy so getting takaway cofee is slow process, but worth the wait. The busy cafe is situated with the California Garden Centre with plenty of parking

Visited for brunch - a bit challenging to find as it’s inside a greenhouse but there is a little patio outside as well where we sat. Service was prompt - you order at the indoor counter. We tried two flat whites which were beautifully poured and decorated. I ordered two poached eggs with toast, herbed mushrooms and bacon - really delicious! Husband ordered the burger which was HUGE - two could have split it. It had a mountain of fries, and included a huge patty, veggies, a fried egg and super thick bacon. He only ate 2/3 of it. Larger portions than we expected but the presentation was superb.

We were visiting family in Wellington. They suggested somewhere we had not been before for food and plants/home bits (California/Glasshouse Cafe). We had a fantastic feed. Social Distancingg seems to have been taken on seriously by all customers; the business aided this with markers and sanitisers etc... anyway back to the food.... I have photos (please observe. My usual test is the 'empty plate' test... The Glasshouse Cafe passes with flying colours. excellent access and parking too (onsite)
