Housing New Zealand system of social housing is like any other business. It works and keeps getting better with ongoing tweaking, hence why there is a need for this review process. The current Social Housing assessment is both bias & predjudice in my opinion. I am stating this, because I see and know that some departments of Housing New Zealand are not fulfilling the role to adequately house the needy, the homeless, the destitute and so on. Of course not one person is going to get it right. However, there is an obligation to match the client , to the house(newly built) I have seen some of their HNZ homes trashed by single parent families. Understandably, the department is not going to want to assist these tenants again, but it happens. It happens because there's always that one person whose mentality is; 'it's just HNZ', I don't care, it's only a government house. They have to house me because I have a kid with mental health problems, I know how to play the system, I'll just go into a motel. Th government will pay the $1000 per week, no worries; and it goes on. I have been a tenant of HNZ. I rented a unit from them in a time where housing & rentals were abundant. That first flat I had from 1979-1980. Moved to Napier, lived in the Nui from1980-1986 and from 2006-2010 I rented a 3 bedroom HNZ house from 2006-2010. I was arrested for Dealing Methamphetamine.I maintain I did not deal or indulge in Meth from that address.Yes, I did like using drugs and alcohol. I have had problems with drugs since the age of 13 years of age. I've been in and out of dysfunctional relationships. Both intimately and of a business nature. In summary; 'it's been both colorful and dark.' But this sense of homelessness is unlike any other dark path I have journeyed At this present moment I have whanau who have 3 bedroom homes, no young children like you see on those television programmes ie Marae, Q&A, The Project, three Degrees or John Campbell. Immigration in the early part of the Millenium played a major role in the downfall of New Zealands Social Fabric. The number of landlords offshore sky rocketed as did Property Investment, especially Foreign Land Owners/Landlords. Winston Peters predicted this would happen and this is his statement." We will be tenants in our own land".It's been happening since the regime of the National Party. They knew what they were doing when they sold HNZ occupied land to the wealthy Real Estate moguls( his wealthy mates)The dinasty of JonKey.(Donkey says to Simon Bridges"Your Boss Kind Man Opening up Boarder for us. Come, live, new life" Simon Bridges turns to donkey, stutters then grunts" heeee, hee, heee aalwaaayzz does that" I have whanau & associates in 3 bedroom homes who have no children, I have whanau who have had a beautiful and some standard HNZ homes but due to negligence and the mentality above, they've walked out of that/ those homes. Left it in ruins and has moved in with the childrens father, a tenant of HNZ also. How does this work.He has Protection Orders against him. She works full-time and he is with the children 24/7. Takes them to school. UUhm! I thought protection Orders meant no contact unless Court Ordered. And it happens directly under the noses of HNZ & the Police. I know of whanau and aquaintences who rent HNZ and although the young ones have gone to live with the other parent, she gets to keep her house and recently her adult children have moved back in. I assumed the need was for children who live in cars; or have to stay when the marae doors open during the colder seasons. Do I want answers, probably not. What's my objective? My objective is probably around consistent monitoring, policy proceedures of HNZ, the power of the police & housing as & is a basic human right.
