Seen by Sikandar Zaman in early Dec ‘25. Urgently needed a brace for broken kneecap as the one fitted by Urgent Care was not the correct size as kept slipping down my shin. Sikander checked my knee and explained the purpose and structure of brace he fitted. Highly recommend this man as he is very knowledgeable in this field.
Brief physical history. About 4 yrs ago my lower left leg just above the ankle rec'd 3 verticle breaks in a mv accident. After 15 months an 3 operations I could barely walk and was in severe pain - BUT HBDHB said 'that was all they could do! A discussion with the registrar in question got me a referal to OrthoticHouse. It has been a long journey, but right from my interaction with Tracey (receptionist), voice of an Angel I felt I was at last being listened to and more importantly - taken care of. Sikandar (my orthotist) was hugely receptive and listened to all my concerns with the utmost of professional care and empathy. On first visit he identified that my injured leg was now 2.5 cm shorter than it should be. He arranged through ACC for me to get elevated left shoes. Sikandar then went on to arange a fiberglass foot/ankle brace that improved my mobility and lessened my pain greatly. Problem was - it could not fit into any shoe. Problem solved when Sikandar arranged for special 'zip top' shoes to accomodate this brace - again with backing from ACC. Summary: I/We are so fortunate to have Orthotic House and especially their concered, caring and empathetic problem solving team. O/H and Sikandar have given me a fresh start in life again. No I can no longer play golf, but I can walk for pleasure, garden and will even start my overseas travle plans again. OH & Sikandar - thak you for the gift of a mobile, less painful life. Sikander (at Orthotic House) is a most skilled and experienced orthotist that my partner Aaron has being seeing on a regular basis since 2021. We moved from Wellington to Napier in 2020 and Aaron has been helped by five previous orthotists over 20 years, and Sikander is by far the best of them all. He has resolved long standing problems with my partner's ankle-foot orthotics and shoes that other orthotists could not. Aaron is walking the best he has done for years and frequent pain when walking is gone. Sikander has significantly helped him and he also prevented a young family member of ours from having a lifelong problem. We took him for a consultation for painful feet and tripping. Sikander showed him how to gradually stretch his growing muscles to avoid remaining intoed (pigeon-toed) as an adult and he can now walk and run without pain.
Probably the worst service I have ever had, on two seperate appointments with different specialists, I have had one set of unusable inserts and with the second initial appointment no follow up to mold being taken. Avoid at all costs.
