The location is convenient, but the property is poorly maintained. There’s an unpleasant smell upon entering, and both the kitchen and common areas are dirty and malodorous. The toilets and shower rooms are unisex, which might not suit everyone. The soundproofing is poor, and the street noise at night can be quite disruptive. Additionally, the bunk beds are shaky and creak loudly whenever you move. Stayed here for two nights in December 2024. Affordable price but I wouldn’t come back again.

I am sorry to say that but unfortunately facilities of this hostel isn't good. Old facilities didn't work well. Kitchen was mostly dirty by long term staying workers. And the dust smell makes me feeling sick.. the shower room was ok. No lift.
My mattress was terriblely painful by steel springs over night. But room was warm by heater. Staffs are friendly.. but reception is not always open..... I stayed here for 2 nights.. 42$ per night... sadly Napier has very few backpacker options.... location was very good.. near beach and restaurants.. else

If you like chocking on dust while you sleep and an awful mattress and general unhygienic shared spaces this is the place for you. The staff were great and friendly. Maybe if the place was gutted and redone it might be livable. Even for a night I would not recommend. Camp on the beach.

Would have given 0 star if possible. Reached there at 7:30 and nobody was there, called the number and was informed that she would be back in over 1 hour also. We had to change our plan after a long day drive, so we mucked around in the city and had our dinner. We were under the impression that we will receive a phone call when she is back. Until 9pm, my partner rang, but no answer. 9:05 I rang, she answered and said someone was waiting for us, so I told her we will be there in 10-15 mins. Then by the time we reach there, NO ONE AGAIN ! We pressed the button for assistance TWICE, no one came. So I decided to call a mobile number on the board ( we called landline previously ). A different woman answered the phone ( known as owner later ) , she blamed on us for checking in so late since they are just a hostel. She questioned me if i had let anyone know earlier that we would be check in so late. After a long day, am exhausted ! I started to tell her what happened, but then she HANG UP ON ME ! Then someone came, no one showed us where is the washroom, toilet, etc.. nothing ! We had to figure out by ourselves, the whole settings and the dark corridor was just creepy as ! We didn’t even have shower coz we just didn’t feel comfortable to step in.
I’ve been in NZ for more than 10 years, I have to say even backpacker service and vibes are better than this. We are not paying under market rate and ofc we are expecting up to standard service - rather than being told off by the owner.
Super disappointed! The worst place I’ve ever stayed . Stay away if you can, not worth the price.

Got informed on the phone that check in was up to 8pm, and that there was a room available. Turned up at 7:45pm to be told ‘there is not enough staff to check you in’. Was quite disappointed that we just needed a bed for the night, and all they had to do was give us a key and take us to our room. Clearly the night warden just couldn’t be bothered to work that night. Won’t be returning!

We checked in at 8pm thinking our room should be ready but wasn't the cleaner was in our room still cleaning and check in at 2pm. So we got into our room after the cleaner finished cleaning and the door was open so we didn't need to use our key to unlock the door we put all our bags in our room and left the room locking the door from the lock on the door instead of using our key we got back from dinner around 11pm and we tryed to get into our room but it wouldn't open they gave us the wrong key and reception was closed but lucky one of the workers lived on site and told her she help us get a key which we were lucky but we shouldn't have to go though this from the beginning. Never again

Not enough fridge space, had to throw food out. Guests extrememly noisy after 11pm and sometimes early morning too. Notices need to be displayed in various languages to ask for concern for other people staying. Not really enough showers or toilets for the beds on the top floor, had too queue frequently. As a backpackers needs upgrading fixtures and fittings. On a lighter note, breakfast sat and sun was great and lifts to and fro to the concert were very much appreciated.

Stayed there for three weeks working.
Not recommendable if you have dust allergies since it doesn’t get cleaned unless specifically asked.
Very dirty, the ceiling is partly covered in mold.
The kitchen is also very dirty and there’s not enough storage space. While I was there the fridge didn’t work and didn’t get fixed for 3 weeks, even after several complaints.
The hostel offers car rides to and from work but not reliable since we didn’t get picked up without a warning and had to hitchhike home.
Food got thrown out without warning (even labeled food bags and boxes) because they “looked disgusting“.
The hostel is livable but way too overpriced for the quality they offer:)

OK for one night. Lots of people are staying there for a long time so a bit of weird atmosphere. Kitchen is pretty small but does the job. You can have all you can eat breakfast for 4 dollars. Perfect location next to the main museums and art deco center. Big car park very close to it. Only 1 dollars per hour. No laundry in the hostel but laundromat very close to it too.
