This is really a wonderland. Places like this made New Zealand unique. We rented a car from Hamilton and reached thermal wonderland. We had bought tickets online, but can be purchased at the location too. This place gives a feeling of being on another planet. There are geothermal lakes with water seeming colourful. They say the colours keep on changing depending on sunlight, weather etc… there are few lakes like these. We could only see 2 of them, but it was worth every penny and the travel. One of the lakes has fluorescent green reflection… it was unreal.. this place is a must visit and you need to spend enough time to sink that all in.

Would do this all over again in a heartbeat! Our guides Pedro & Sasha were excellent. They provided booties, wetsuits & life vests as well as training via clear instructions. I never felt unsafe. The 7 meter (23 feet) drop was the highlight! Also enjoyed being able to jump in the rapids afterwards. Don’t hesitate-do it!!!

Nice thermal fields with good paths. The short loop shows you all the highlights and can be covered in an hour and a half. There are colorful pools and lots of steam craters. Price is a bit high at 50 NZD. Big tour groups come here but they pass by quick.

A fantastic place you’ll never forget once you’ve been. I walked the longest path along geothermal fields, lakes, rivers, and waterfalls β€” and it was an absolutely breathtaking experience. The colors shift like in a fairy tale, warmth gives way to a cool breeze, and at some point you stop understanding whether this is real or a dream gifted to us by nature itself! ❀️

This place was a fun and unique experience! We did the 45-minute hike, which was manageable and enjoyable. Just be aware of the strong sulfur smell coming from the volcanoβ€”it’s quite pungent and smells like rotten eggs. I recommend bringing a mask or face covering to help with the odor. The volcanic smoke was fascinating to see, and the bright yellow color of the rocks from the sulfur made the landscape feel almost otherworldly. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something different!

An amazing park! It's insane to see all the wonders of nature. The thermal interest and everything derived from it are simply breathtaking. Keep in mind there's an unpleasant smell in most places. There's a comfortable walk on trails, but not all are accessible. You need to buy tickets in advance.

Really enjoyed visiting here....the smells really hit you! Beautiful colours from the various geological processes. The various paths are well marked out and can take various routes depending on the time you wish to spend there. Cafe and giftshop on site. Definitely recommend

Wonderful Waiotapu!!! This place is really mind blowing. A must visit place in North Island. There are 3 different walking trails, all are linked with each other making the walking level easier to moderate. Please make sure you have shoes with good grip on a wet day as the surfaces can be slippery. Would recommend to carry enough water for yourself to keep hydrated and food if needed. Plenty of places to sit and eat with family/friends.

A wonderful morning spent walking around different tracks seeing beautiful geothermal sights. $85 for a family which is very reasonable. 3 different routes but are all linked. Track 2 and 3 would be difficult with a pushchair or wheelchair as there are steps going down.. minimum 30 steps down. Lovely being able to get so close to a natural wonder.

Wow! this is a huge and absolutely amazing natural park. A place I've never seen before. It's really blows my mind, stimulates my curiosity and amazes me with the wondrous nature. We spent about 2 hours on this visit. At the entrance and also at the exit there are food and drink, souvenirs and toilets. You should bring water and go to the toilet before going in, no restrooms inside the park. Inside the park there are also very few seats and no roof so you should check the weather before going. Parking: yes
