   We had an awesome time at Pouakai Zoo. The place is really well kept, the staff were all super friendly, and there’s even a cool little bush walk. We got to watch the lions being fed and the cheeky monkeys gave us plenty of laughs. Great spot for a family day out!

   Edited to 3 stars because of the response given. The children were within my sight. And I didn’t have an issue with what was being asked. I had an issue with HOW she spoke to the children. And yes I could see and hear her from where I was. Changing this to sound like the children were doing something wrong is why this is changed from 4 to 3 stars. Accept criticism as a way to improve. Don’t shift blame on children. It also would not have been that hard to have the conversation with the adult she could see. Especially as we were pretty much the only ones present the entire visit and she knew I was watching from my seated position as had spoken to me AND the other staff member knew the children were unsupervised as we had a discussion about it This was the kids highlight of the trip. Unfortunately due to gravel paths and mobility issues I wasn’t able to spend as much time showing them around as I had hoped. The man (South African maybe) that works there was lovely. The wee Asian woman not at all lovely and made two kids cry. Well kept facility and happy animals. A wee tidy up of the paths so I could have managed to give the children a wee bit more time with the monkeys would have made it a 5*. Unexpected for such a small zoo

   We had the best time at the zoo, we nearly didn’t even know it existed but someone told us about it. Had the most surreal experience with the lions, I hope they get their pool filled up soon hehe. They were nibbling on a carcass which was unreal and then someone came out and gave them some meat right before we left. Was so bloody cool. There’s also a neat little 10 minute trail walk at the back, was lovely.

   Amazing zoo. Great for kids. You are able to feed and pet the donkeys, goats, lamas and ostriches who are very friendly. It was super cool to see the owner feed the lions. He was a great source of information and was willing to answers everyone’s questions. It’s beautiful to see how much they care about conversation and the animals. Our family makes the 1 and a half drive up whenever we get the chance.

   I feel so so sorry for these poor animals… it’s horribly filthy, nothing for the poor animals to do in their tiny enclosures . Most animals have no trees or toys . There is no cafe no playground, bush walk was closed . Nothing to do but look at the poor suffering animals. Waited In the cold for the lions feeding , only to be waiting longer as lions were feed late . They were given Only 3 small bits of meat each …

   Kids loved feeding the animals. There was a great assortment of different types of animal. The gibbon was my favorite and it did a loud whooping call. Lions and tigers are very close so you can see them closer than any zoo I've been to.

   A small zoo but with various animals. We really enjoyed our visit there! The ducks and hens were following me for feed and the cockatoo was greeting me that kept saying Hello and that was sooo cute! It’s amazing that there was no bad smell all around the place.
