Was in Tauranga for work, so dropped into a Thurs session. Ryosei & the team are so welcoming and like the other reviewers said: Ryosei's teaching is absolutely top notch. Really enjoyed the session and got a lot out of it. Highly, highly recommend!!

Ryosei is a great coach, definitely knows his stuff and I'm a huge fan of how things are taught. There are multiple situations you are in with clear winning conditions for both, and then he'll break down some good things or help troubleshoot after the different periods. Plus there were times where he'd field questions and give tips on just how to get better. All in all the community was welcoming, incredibly nice, yet monsters on the mat. Great gym, remember to bring your A game when you come here.

If you really want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a high level with quality teaching this is the place to be. Iβm a 3 stripe purple belt from LA that visited Tauranga BJJ on my vacation and I was absolutely caught off guard when I found this gem of a place. I came through with my brother who has been a blue belt for 4 years now and honestly we were not expecting a whole lot maybe just a few light rolls but we what we found in the small humble gym located in Bethlehem was a team of high caliber beginner athletes. Itβs odd to even put those two words together βhigh caliberβ and βbeginnerβ. But thatβs what we found. We were invited to come back for a class and thatβs when we got to see just how black belt instructor and owner Ryosei teaches and was able to build up such a strong team. The way he teaches is definitely unique and helps athletes to start thinking like a black belt even though they are just starting their BJJ journey. Itβs hard to put everything into words, all I can say is come check out the school. Forget about the glitz and glam of a big school. Get better at BJJ here.

Just dropped by for a class while visiting from the states and wow, I was just blown away by the level of teaching, attention to detail, and the welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Coach was so intentional about teaching not just technique but also giving opportunities for students to drill starting from compromised positions to get practical experience escaping and using critical thinkings to apply their knowledge in various positions. Even though I was the only woman, I felt that the instructor was intentional in who he had me drill and roll with and I felt safe and comfortable even as a beginner (white belt). I would highly recommend to any level of person interested in beginning or continuing their jiu jitsu journey under such excellent and attentive level of instruction. The facilities are tidy, spacious and even have free parking and shower / changing areas. Pluses all around!

Very friendly people to train with, and Ryoseiβs calm demeanour and depth of knowledge makes class a fun learning experience. Having been out of training for about a year, I was really glad to find Tauranga BJJ to continue my training.

Ryosei has created a fantastic team environment where students can feel comfortable learning this complex martial art in a safe, friendly, welcoming environment. Extremely pleased with the depth of knowledge shown and demonstrated by the instructor. Overall the attention to detail is fantastic and will no doubt ultimately make the world of difference to the students in time. Thanks again for your time, effort and energy.

Tauranga BJJ is a friendly professionally run organisation and I fully recommend it. ForJiu Jitsu newbies like myself, Ryosei is the perfect coach to introduce you to the sport. His extensive knowledge and experience are complemented by an ability to explain and talk you through the techniques. The atmosphere is positive, encouraging and supportive. Fully recommend!

I first heard about TGA BJJ through an Adults 1 week free trial via social media. I sat on the idea for a few days, maybe even a week.. Eventually I registered my interest via email. Within a few hours I had received a response of everything I needed to know. The who, what, when and wear (what to wear), all that was left for me to do was to turn up. In the intro class we learnt and performed some of the fundamental moves. We also got to see practical applications of the movements which I specifically liked, I like to understand why or how things work. After class I was invited to continue or spectate, I chose to stick around and watch the normal class. I was astounded by the skill of everybody training that night, from white to purple belts. There was a community feel that meant people were comfortable, safe and having fun. The instruction was clear, engaging and progressive. They finished off the class with sparring and although I didn't know what I was looking at (Still don't to be honest), I knew at that point that I wanted to be part of it. Looking back on my sign up experience, the hardest part personally, was making the decision to email to register for the Adults 1 Week Trial. If you're on the fence, you've read this far, I encourage you apply and I'll catch you in class! BA
