   Very Expensive and Unexpected Costs My husband and I were quoted $2,300–$2,600 plus GST and disbursements to purchase a property together. Based on both quotes for selling my husband’s house and purchasing, we expected to pay around $4,700 plus GST in total. The sale and purchase agreement was prepared by our real estate agent and approved by the lawyer, with conditions including the sale of my husband’s property, a LIM, a builder’s report, and a KiwiSaver withdrawal. The lawyer mentioned the pool not being up to code, which we already knew. I also clearly advised that I would review the LIM and builder’s report myself to help keep costs down. However, the invoice stated these were “discussed” with me, which did not happen — we only discussed that I would review these myself. We then received an invoice of $2,700 (later reduced to $2,200 plus admin and GST), which was already close to the full quoted amount, despite the purchase not having progressed very far. Unfortunately, my husband’s property sale fell through due to finance. We asked the lawyer to contact the vendor to request an extension. This involved approximately 20 minutes of phone calls and an email to confirm and satisfy the condition, yet resulted in an additional charge of $845 (after a reduction). In total, we were charged $6,687.50 for a sale that did not go through and a purchase that also did not go ahead. Due to the high and unpredictable costs, we chose to move to another law firm. They transferred my KiwiSaver without any additional charge, which we were grateful for. While the lawyer was lovely to deal with, the overall costs were far higher than expected, and even small changes added up very quickly at the lawyer’s hourly rate. For this reason, we decided not to continue with this firm. The reason we are leaving this review is simply to warn future clients that costs can add up very quickly with this law firm. I wish I had looked at reviews first, as it appears this has happened to a few other clients as well.

   Their trust department and in particular the partner in that department should be investigated for their work. Garnishing hours, not communication, skirting around advice but never actually giving it. Borderline criminal! Despite clear instruction being given tasks weren’t undertaken or completed. Seemed to forget who the client was. Got charged $40k to go round in circles for 6 months with nothing ever happening. Ch aged lawyers and suddenly all questions could be answered in a straight manner without the dodgy answers. Tasks all completed. Avoid this firm like the plague.

   Extremely slow service and poor communication. Still waiting, after 8 months, for a "simple" agreement to be drafted and signed. Hasn't even been sent to the other party. Nothing ever progresses without me hassling them - and then, after weeks of silence there will be an apology and a poor excuse. A firm of this repute should take greater pride in their work and professional responsibility. I am astounded by the apparent disregard.

   Terrible service, told would take 2 weeks to get back to me and took months. Thought they had completely forgotten about me, i went and got advice elsewhere and they provided all the information I needed and the matter for very low price, before i was even contacted again by this firm. And then was charged far more than what was suggested in my only meeting, which was only 40 min meeting, and I was told interns could do 1 or 2 hours research to get the information together and i was charged over $1000. And was the "advice" i recieved was basically nothing. Could have recieved better advice from chat gpt. Wouldnt recommend this service... or complete lack of service, to anyone. Worst experience with any company or service I have ever recieved.

The court system did me wrong, took my daughter away unfairly and it was the most difficult and painful period of my life. Now that I am done with all that, I got my daughter back thanks to our combined effort, I appreciate you, and I'm very grateful that I had the chance to meet you. you are kind, knowledgeable, and skilled at what you do. Looking back, I recall times where you and I had to really face some difficult challenges, particularly just one person, Im sure you know whom i am talking about. But we got through it together and dealt with the situation professionally and with a hint of humour. You are a great lawyer, but the best thing is that you are an even better person.    Stay away from this law firm. NWM's litigation team is among the worst, if not the worst. They are excellent at giving unsolicited advice for the sake of advice, regardless of how many times you instruct them to stop giving advice and get some work done. They will leave the client handing in limbo, fully drained in the end.
