Extremely disappointed with Car Mechanix in Meadowlands-would not recommend. I took my campervan in with an oil leak and engine light issue. They replaced the turbo oil return pipe but failed to install the essential supplied tin gasket-which I paid for on my invoice which is critical to proper oil sealing under the high heat of diesel turbo. Instead, they just used heat-resistant silicone, which didn't stop or change the volume of the leak. They also scanned the van a couple of times showing that the glow plugs were intermittently faulty, the first scan said 3 and 4 glow plugs were faulty, and the second scan said 1 and 2 glow plugs were faulty. They also only used a basic scanning tool which didn't reveal the real problem. If they had of used the other scanning set up which they had it would of revealed that the glow plug wiring loom was at fault which was causing the engine light to keep coming on and intermittently showing different glow plugs coming up as a fault, so it was never a glow plug problem. On top of this despite me me being clear about my ignition interlock I had on my van then, and how you have to blow into it every 5 mins while the engine is running which he agreed to do so, they ignored my requests-resulting in a $100 interlock violation fine which I had to pay. After that, I visited a few other mechanics, all of whom refused to touch the van until the ignition interlock system was removed. Because of that, I was stuck for 5 months (from aug 2024 to Jan 2025) before it was removed and finally taking it to Qualitat European motors, who diagnosed and fixed everything correctly in one go. They found that the turbo oil return pipe gasket wasn't there, so replaced it, reconnected it and the oil leak stopped completely. They also replaced the rocker cover gasket which was also leaking badly. James at car Mechanix said that he thought he saw only slight moisture from the rocker cover gasket after I had asked him to have a look but obviously didn't look at all. Qualitat also discovered the real issue behind the engine light-a faulty glow plug wiring loom. The delay caused by the interlock still on my van made it to late to claim any more money back from Car Mechanix. James did originally refund me $400, accepting the fact that they made a mistake but this was before the full extent of the shoddy work was discovered by a spealised mechanic. I chose not to go back to James at Mechanix because my gut feeling said that these guys really don't know what they are doing and I had zero confidence in their ability to do the job right. I knew I had taken it to wrong place and felt I needed a specialist mechanic who deals with these vehicles. I didn't want to keep digging the same hole deeper especially after all the work they did just made things worse. I could just see more trouble. This whole experience caused me huge stress, wasted time, and cost me thousands more-all because the original mechanic didn't follow proper procedure and failed to do a simple job correctly. When I showed him photographic proof of the oil pipe with no gasket and filled with silicone James denied any responsibility, and gave me nothing but excuses and not even a hint of any apology. I would never go back to Car Mechanix, , as James attitude and lack of accountability made it much worse leaving me feeling that I had paid him my money for nothing.

James has been taking care of our cars since 8 years ago. I moved once to the Central during these years and tried a few other local car services but came back to James at the end. Heβs been trustworthy , efficient and reliable. He also offers good price if comparing products of the same quality. I do recommend Car Mechanix to my friends because I want his business to go on long as possible.

I went for a scan due to knocking sound while driving and the engine light was on. Drop it off, got a call back after about 2 hours with the diagnosis and pricing on what needs to be repair. Got quoted 1.5k for replacing all 4 ignition coil and spark plugs due to misfire engine. I didn't know much about cars in general and I was just shocked hearing the amount of money that I need to spend to fix my car. James was trying to be helpful by giving me options to lower the price by recommending to not replace one of the ignition coil because it 'hard to reach' (because its only 2 coils that were faulty) and able to lower the labour cost. Drive the car back home, decided to not go ahead give it sometime to think about it and got the written report from them . luckily I got a flatmate that have knowledge about cars and review the report from James about what needs to be replaced. Its definitely not gonna cost me 1.5k to fix it! I was even more shock now. Got my friend to replace all spark plugs (all cylinder are NOT hard to reach as described by James) and 2 ignition coils. Total of all parts is $422 and apparently the cost of fitting the spark plugs and coils is almost 3 times the cost of all parts (note that replacing spark plugs and coils is one job as they are not located in different part of the car). Good diagnosis tho but damn I'm glad I decided to drive my car back home. Very disappointing because all the reviews have been great for this place. Hopefully not many people have been overcharge by them.

Highly recommend Car Mechanix. Friendly staff, felt like they genuinely wanted to help fix my cars issue - fixed it while I was there (5 minute fix of a loose bolt) so I didn't have to return later in the day to collect my car. Above and beyond service!
