We attended the GKR Karate class at Te Atatu Peninsula (Rutherford) and were disappointed by how a female black belt instructor handled my five-year-old. While she explained the correct process, the way it was communicated was unnecessarily blunt and embarrassing for a small child, especially when other students who came late were not addressed in the same way. Respect and encouragement are very important at this age, so I hope the club can review how instructions are delivered to young beginners.

βΈ» I had a disappointing experience with GKR Karate NZ. Initially, the lady who spoke to me was very polite and encouraging, which led me to enroll my child. However, her attitude changed significantly afterward. I was shocked when she informed me that although I was entitled to a free trial, I would not be eligible for the promotional price if I want a trial class. Instead, I would have to pay the full fees and purchase the uniform, which was otherwise included in the promotion. It seems they anticipate that parents might reconsider enrolling their child after seeing the overcrowded classes, where all age groups are mixed together, leaving younger children standing in the corner with little opportunity to learn. When I inquired about the possibility of a refund for the one-off membership feeβwhile fully willing to pay for the week my daughter attendedβI was met with a complete lack of flexibility. The response I received made it clear that, satisfied or not, there would be no refunds. Furthermore, when I mentioned that I would leave an honest review, I was accused of making a threat, which I found highly unprofessional. I have chosen to pay the required notice period but will not be sending my daughter to attend any further classes. Unfortunately, I feel I wasted both my time and money. The class structure, with mixed age groups and minimal individual guidance, did not provide an effective learning environment for my child. While experiences may vary, this was my perspective as a parent, and I believe it is important to share my feedback. I feel really disappointed the staff seem to let you down and blame you back. They get really annoyed when I told them I would give my genuine feedback. They wonβt listen to you if there is anything you would speak against them.

A great place to learn Karate and they have classes for the whole family. You can attend many classes throughout the week and at different times. The sensei provide a friendly, fun but disciplined environment for learning. The dojo is clean and well maintained. My son is really enjoying learning Karate
