These guys are great. I use them whenever my car needs a service or repairs. They're honest and have great communication, ringing you once a diagnostic has been completed to run through issues and check whether you want to go ahead with repairs. If it's not urgent work, they don't pressure you into going ahead with it.
As Backpackers, we're often the easy target of dishonest people, especially with our cars. In years of travel, i have experienced this situation more than one time. It's why, before leave New-Zealand, i was so lucky to find Your Neighbourhood Mechanic (not so lucky in truth, cause it was another traveller who recommended me this adress during my travel). In one minut, they checked and resolved for free a problem with my heat when another garage told me that he needed to spend hours for find and fix the problem. The day after, they worked on my car and i paied less that what they told me at first. Highly recommanded. Dear backpackers colleagues, definitely go there without fear of being scammed.
Took my car in with a split cv boot I had previously diagnosed and could hear, was told there was no issue or noise when they called me to come pick it up, when I was handed the keys I was told the cv boot was actually split but they didn’t change it like I asked them. What a waste of time
After looking online for a local mechanic I visited to introduce myself and hopefully book in. An older lady who seemed to be having a bad day informed me that they wouldn't fit my parts as they were not supplied by them. OK - fair enough. She then abruptly picked up a phone call as I was mid-sentence. A customer service course for this person would go a long way. She may also want to invest in some breath mints. On the plus side, her assistant was lovely. Enthusiasts beware

Not a great experience. Very high charge out rate and estimates are very Conservative. $450 thermostat housing that I bought for $57 including shipping. Something wrong there.
Thoroughly impressed with the team at YNM! They go the extra mile and were so accommodating when my childcare fell through and I needed help getting my car to them. Fair pricing on all work done and quality workmanship too. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a regular mechanic or needing one-off work done
